Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

That would mean admitting defeat, something that Trump would consider to be fundamentally unacceptable.
A lot about his actions and words since winning and taking office have stank of "I never wanted this job" and his reaction upon winning was not the face of someone who wanted to get into the Oval Office. It was the face of a man realising he had to back up all the bullshit he'd spewed during the campaign.
The parallels to Brexit are obvious. The Leave campaign also never thought they would actually win, and several of the prominent leaders essentially ran away from the responsibility of doing what they had been campaigning to do.
Insiders from his organisation like Cohen have also confirmed that Trump wasn't trying to win.
And a lot of people actually run for President partly to roll the dice and partly to raise their own profile, rather than earnestly gunning for the big prize.

"...in the end the Shadow was only a small and passing thing: there was light and high beauty for ever beyond its reach."Well, considering everything he did, my pity well is bottomed out.
In fact, I hope the job has made him completely miserable for the past three years. (Whenever he could be bothered to actually work instead of playing golf, anyway)
He's also got plenty of legislative and executive experience, and was the head of the Democratic Governors' Association during the midterms (which saw the Dems gain over half a dozen mansions).
He supports gun control, some form of universal healthcare, has a progressive taxation record, opposes capital punishments, supports cannabis legalization (and pardons for minor offenses), raised the minimum wage at the state level, etc.

I doubt he has the profile to win, but I don't see anything objectionable.

But why though? As we all know, licensed material frequently doesn't turn out well!
In seriousness though, that's a bad idea.

The awful things he says and does are burned into our cultural consciousness like a CRT display left on the same picture too long. -Fighteer
