Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

Well, you can't speak for every Republican, but if they don't, they have a funny way of showing it.
Oh God! Natural light!I guess it got brought up again because the news that he's almost certainly going to run and the fact that his polling makes him a strong contender has made it a lot more real for us.
It's like what happened when Sanders announced his run.
Disgusted, but not surprisedFrankly I'm mostly looking at the growing list and growing ever more exhausted. The actual elections are like two years away. These increasingly long primary cycles are a drain.
If I had my do anything wishlist, it would be to put actual time limits on how soon people can announce and how long these things can go on. Because holy shit did I not look forward to a Democratic version of the last two election cycle's shit circus.
I'd say him having the biggest possible appeal to non-base voters probably doesn't weigh up well to how much it will alienate the new progressive additions to the Democrat base after the mid-terms if the DNC supports him far more than more progressive candidates. The DNC's blatant favouritism of Hillary over Bernie during the primaries leading up to 2016 did the Democrats no favours (even if it's understandable given that Bernie was an independent up to and after that).
Angry gets shit done.My opinion on Biden is that he's not the best candidate by far but he'd easily defeat Trump and is still on the progressive side of things. So I'm resigned to him having a decent chance of winning the primaries before thrashing Trump.
Even if I support Warren and Bernie above him.
Harris I'm back and forth on.

Author of The Rules of Supervillainy, Cthulhu Armageddon, and United States of Monsters.>My roommate just said that "republicans don't hate LGBTQ people". Does anyone have any sources that agree or disagree?
Well, LGBTQ people certainly mostly don't like the Republicans.
I'd point to all the examples of Republican hostility towards LGBTQ rights, but honestly I'd just google it if I were you. There's certainly no shortage of examples.

The awful things he says and does are burned into our cultural consciousness like a CRT display left on the same picture too long. -FighteerThe only reason Bernie came close to upsetting Hillary was his positions.
Anyway, it won't be just the voters who decide the Primary candidate. A lot of it will be carried by the DNC itself.
So Bernie will probably lose to Biden or Warren.

The idea of President Biden doesn't really appeal to me either. For me, It'd be a vote against Trump in the General, and not a vote for Biden.
