Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

Biden is just casually conservative. This shouldn't come as a surprise, the dude just recently went off on millennials for complaining too much about civil rights issues and climate change. He's maybe the absolute worst pick for a Democratic nominee that's most likely gonna be running, along with Kamala Harris.
"If you spend all your heart / On something that has died / You are not alive and that can't be a life"I wouldn't say Harris is in Biden's league. Harris at least doesn't have a Me Too! scandal waiting to happen.
Kamala Harris is a good pick IMO. As noted here
politicians' promises are a fairly reliable guide to their policies whereas their past political records is not. Counterintuitive, I know.
Gabbard is awful enough that she's still the bottom of the barrel. If they ran on the Democratic ticket Bloomberg and even Schultz would be better.
That would make sense, given that Gabbard is something of an unknown with single digit polling.

Politics is the skilled use of blunt objects. As opposed to Tulsi Gabbard?
I guess I shouldn't be too surprised by this, TBH. After all, she supported Sanders.
"Somehow the hated have to walk a tightrope, while those who hate do not."I have to echo the others, to say that Harris is worse then Bloomberg or Gabbard is absolutely ridiculous.
Yes, she has some unfortunate history in regards to criminal justice but come on, have some perspective.
"Einstein would turn over in his grave. Not only does God play dice, the dice are loaded." -Chairman Sheng-Ji YangDidn't septimus already note the omission of Gabbard in that comment might not necessarily be a statement that she's any better?
Didn't her campaign fall apart almost immediately?
no, but that's a different point altogether, since Biden, at least, is actively being discussed.

Yeah, that's a fair point.
But still, with Bloomberg running and how terrible Biden is I don't think it's really proportionate to list Harris with them.

"Einstein would turn over in his grave. Not only does God play dice, the dice are loaded." -Chairman Sheng-Ji YangI'm more of the question what does Harris bring to the table?
I approve of her suggestions for criminal justice reform but that's tainted by the fact they're a complete 180 on her previous policies.
Does she have something else that she's bringing to the table suggestion wise that puts her above Warren (who is all about the corporate reform and ending corporate personage)?

52% Approval Rating, 93% in Republican Party ( a record )! Pretty amazing considering that 93% (also) of my press is REALLY BAD. The “people” are SMART!
Nothing funny about tired Saturday Night Live on Fake News NBC! Question is, how do the Networks get away with these total Republican hit jobs without retribution? Likewise for many other shows? Very unfair and should be looked into. This is the real Collusion!
Amusingly, SNL’s ratings only go up, whenever Individual One tweets something negative about them.
And here’s the SNL sketch he was referring to:

Honestly, I did forget about Gabbard, but that might just be because I don't consider her a serious candidate. Except for one aspect of her policies, she's even more conservative than Biden, and it's just weird that she would try to run for the Democrat ticket than a third party ticket.
I do stand by saying that Harris is up there with Biden as one of the worst possible candidates, considering she is the prosecutor who put families in debt for not being able to send their kids to school. She's heartless.
"If you spend all your heart / On something that has died / You are not alive and that can't be a life"May you please provide a source?
I was aware of her truancy program but I don't remember it actually resulting in legal consequences for anyone.

"Einstein would turn over in his grave. Not only does God play dice, the dice are loaded." -Chairman Sheng-Ji YangLiterally in the video posted on Twitter where she talked about it, she made jokes about it. Here's
a version of the video on Youtube.

In this case, it's both.
Disgusted, but not surprised
