Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

John Oliver might technically a comedian, but his 15 minute segment contain more information than the whole of the morning news on other channels.
For the US, mostly the mentioned sources, though I also frequent left-wing channels once a while. I tend to take them with a grain of salt, especially since they mostly provide second hand news.

BBC for my regular check-ins, Hill, Wapo, Politico, Reuters, 538, Guardian for specific stories, Occasionally NYT, al-Jazeera, WSJ, CNN, NBC, ABC, Buzzfeed, Vox, Atlantic in specific circumstances.
So, a wide range of stuff. Not all of them I like, but its at least useful to see what they're saying.

The awful things he says and does are burned into our cultural consciousness like a CRT display left on the same picture too long. -FighteerThe answer is, of course, "No". But his staff might be, and that is something worth thinking about. At very least his show is informative, though you should of course, never solely depend on it for information.
I watch both Colbert's Late Show and Trevor Noah's Daily Show, but I also check the WTF Just Happened feeds and pay attention to the discussion in this thread.
My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.For news: Wa Po, NPR, Yahoo (Shut up, don't judge me), Rachel Maddow, and occasionally the NY and LA Times.
Commentary and analysis: Vox, Atlantic, Pod Save America, Pod Save the World, and 538.
I follow a lot of journalists and activists I respect on Twitter, which helps filter how I access news as they share links. Most common publications they link to include Wash Po, NY Times, Pro Publica, Slate, The Atlantic, Vox, Buzzfeed News, and local papers. I have a subscription to my local paper as well.
I usually follow the What the Fuck Just Happened Today? Feed that I often share and, more recently, follow https://currentstatus.io
between updates, since that's how the WTFJHT guy gets his stuff compiled.

His show covers the least amount of things, but is probably the most accurate and the most like actual news.
Edit: Not my worst pagetopper, but definitely not my best.
