Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

The Republicans are the party of Trump. He embodies the registered GOP voting body. His approval rating among GOP voters is absurdly high. 87% of Republicans approve of Trump right now
.
The Republican lawmakers think it's political suicide to not stand with the party. Which means standing with Trump. They think they'll get savaged in the primaries, and if they somehow make it through that, then they won't have the support of the Republican voters in the general and will be equally savaged by the enthusiastic Dems.
There is no reason to impeach Trump unless it serves their purposes. For the Dems, it serves their purpose because A: It's the right thing to do and B: It weakens the administration.
Why do you think that the GOP would throw themselves on their sword in order to weaken their party?
Found a Youtube Channel with political stances you want to share? Hop on over to this page and add them. And in terms of "look, a distraction!", Trump is to meet with Kim Jong-un again.

So when Pelosi was asked by reporters on whether she thinks Trump canceling her trip as retaliation for delaying the Sot U, she responded with: "I would hope not. I don't think the president would be that petty, do you?"

Evidence is not enough, confessions is not enough, the acts of a dictator is not enough.
Trump's alone in the White House. He shut it down. No security. If there was ever a time for a FBI Task Force to go in and haul Trump to where he signs documents saying he did commit these crimes, would that be enough?

Then of course and I know the experts get triggered by this but his supporters, Rube, Gomer, Innis, Cleatus, Billy Bob, they'll try (and fail) at some revolution or armed uprising. If not Trump himself then certainly some of his supporters are counting on the calculated threat of violence to achieve the political goal of making Trump untouchable.
That's a fair comment I think, to say if not Trump then some of his supporters boast about bloodshed and how ugly it will get if Trump is not allowed to say and do what he wants. Trump's personal army, fringe it may be.

You don't understand? Okay, I do honestly believe some of Trump's supporters are counting on the use of violence or threat of violence to make Trump untouchable. The last thing I think most of us want is for there to be a mass shooting in the event of Trump facing legal proceedings, fair call? Some of his supporters would be banking on the threat of violence to shield Trump I do honestly believe.
Do I need to use finger puppets to explain?

Do you need more bandwith for the fake news conspiracies and how Rudi is now a traitor?

I'll rephrase the question, kkhohoho, are you part of the site staff and dictate one of the rules is that anti Trump commentary is not allowed? Numerous posts suggest this is how you see yourself. Are you a mod and get to dictate whether or not Trump can be questioned?
And Hillary's hidden pizzeria basement is sane?

Stay in office? Sure, lots of representatives got wiped out in California during the midterms for example, but Kevin Mc Carthy basically allowed it to happen and he held his seat just fine, so he's not complaining. And more importantly they held onto the Senate, and could theoretically still hold onto the Senate in 2020 (though I certainly hope not).
