Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

The only time I figured he was actually well liked was dealing with New York City's insane crime problems. His tough on crime, tough on the causes of crime approach seemed to have worked quite well.
His forceful leadership in the aftermath of 9/11 also won him some respect. Beyond that, not much.
I hold the secrets of the machine.Been a few months, but trumps approval rating is below 40% again:

So I've been curious for a while, but I didn't really want to ask it until just now. If people really don't want Trump to be in charge, why can't they just rally behind someone to beat him in an election instead of doing all this work to impeach him on illegal things he may or may not have done?
The legend has returned.![]()
Because if he really is on Putins payroll would you want him at the levers of the highest office of the Country for 2 more years?
And simply because of that:
You disagree with someone in office politically? Thats what elections are for.
Someone in office commits crimes, breaks laws and commits generally actions that are inacceptable in that office? Thats exactly what impeachment is for.
Impeachment is not for 'disagreements'. Its for crimes.

"You can reply to this Message!"But he has done them. He's broken lots and lots and lots of laws. His children are given high placed posts in government, he continues to run his businesses, he benefits from patronage, he obstructs justice left and right, and he's colluded with foreign countries.
And he's not punished for any of it or impeached as would happen in a reasonable society.
It's watching the man rob a bank and the police ignore it.
And if you say, well we don't know...Yes we do! We have plenty of witnesses and confessions!

Author of The Rules of Supervillainy, Cthulhu Armageddon, and United States of Monsters.Right, I never said he deserved to be considered a hero, I meant he was considered one.
Found a Youtube Channel with political stances you want to share? Hop on over to this page and add them. His forceful leadership in the aftermath of 9/11 also won him some respect. Beyond that, not much.
It should be noted Trump was part of that. Giuliani and Trump both worked to send all of the poor in Manhattan....elsewhere.
Then they bought the buildings to sell to the super rich.

Yeah, and with the Republicans having control of the senate, impeachment is not going to happen unless Trump openly declares the USA a province of Russia. Whatever reasonable Republicans there might be in the senate, they are kinda stuck between a rock and a hard place, because if they condemn Trump, his rabid fanbase will vote them out. So to hold on to their jobs, they have to go along with Trump and hope they can play the "adult in the room" narrative during the next election.
Of course, it's not like they'd starve without their jobs. Every last one of them is at least a millionaire, and probably has some cushy job with a private company lined up. So let's not give them too much of a pass on this mess.

No one expects it.
However, it's the way it should be working when the President is blatantly committing impeachable offenses. Being angry, upset, and constantly pointing out that he is a criminal being let get away with crimes prevents it from being normalized.
Author of The Rules of Supervillainy, Cthulhu Armageddon, and United States of Monsters. It's going to be difficult for Republicans to justify no impeachment in the face of texts, emails and calls proving Trump directed Cohen to lie to his own congress, but I expect an acquittal in the senate anyway.
Life is unfair...
