Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

£5 says that Giuliani comes out claiming that he never said Trump didn’t cover up collusion, just that Trump didn’t do it himself.

“And the Bunny nails it!” ~ Gabrael “If the UN can get through a day without everyone strangling everyone else so can we.” ~ Cyran
Giuliani is his lawyer, though - that seems like the one job he could easily fire people from.
It's kinda weird how the Mooch got axed after around a week or so for saying stupid things on camera, while Giuliani seems to actively undermine Trump.
We learn from history that we do not learn from historyYou think Trump realises that Gulliani's strategy is insane?
If Fox start calling Gulliani a hindrance that I'm sure Trump will fire him (via Twitter, Trump is know to be to big a coward to fire anyone face to face).
“And the Bunny nails it!” ~ Gabrael “If the UN can get through a day without everyone strangling everyone else so can we.” ~ CyranFurther on Steve King, another problem for him were attempts to form bonds to European far right movements. And that (apparently) unlike Paul Ryan Kevin McCarthy isn't willing to put up with his drama.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanAlso, does this count as Witness Intimidation?
Food stereotypes in general are stupid. Like, racists make jokes about fried chicken and watermelon 'cause them there black people, they sure do love fried chicken and watermelon.
But.
Like.
Do you know who else likes fried chicken and watermelon? Everybody. Everybody likes fried chicken and watermelon. Fried chicken and watermelon are delicious. I'm white as the driven snow and I love me some Popeye's. It's so f*cking hypocritical to be like "LOL those black folks and their fried chicken" while you're standing in line at KFC.
They should have just gone with it. After all, it's no less dirty than Mitch's usual activities.
If we accept this logic as SOP, then the Both Siders become right. We should not aspire to be just as crooked, grotesque, and ugly as Mitch McConnell, because he is a terrible baseline for acceptable behavior.
Who else will take the job? When you're as reviled among lawyers as Trump is and nearly all competent professionals have already refused you, you take what you can get.
Trump's options aren't "Hire Giuliani or hire a much more capable lawyer". His options are "Hire Giuliani or just don't have a lawyer at all."
My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.Oldish Tweet, but really concerning about gerrymandering reform
.
x2 Nah, Trump has been displeased with Giuliani on numerous occasions.

Also, Luvdisc scales are insanely valuable. Or were. Haven't played in a while.
Actually, if they were valuable and aren't anymore, that would be the perfect metaphor. Something that once was valued and seen as useful, if niche, and is now seen as worthless.
But really, I think Trump keeps Rudy around because he lives in the past. Trump wants to be seen in the 1990's perception of him, before he was just a punchline. When he was, once upon a time, a respected businessman. Giuliani is pretty similar. There was a time when he was a damn hero. Acknowledging that he's become a laughingstock and people now see through him implicitly means that they can do the same to him.
