Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

Most call probably go though the secure landline, the risk is that Trump’s phone could have malware on it more than that he’s making important calls with it. He mainly uses it to tweet.

I would be quite surprised if Trump's phone wasn't regularly getting infected with malware; I also hope, really really hope, that the White House has a couple of dedicated IT guys who do nothing but scrub Trump's phones to remove said malware whenever they can get the phone out of his grubby little fingers.
Eh, not by much. Reddit banned r/physical removal and had r/the_donald leave for a few days and they are doing fine, even if they came crawling back they didn't seem to lose a lot of revenue.
I wish Twitter was as left wing as it's haters say, then with less places to unite we could maybe have a functioning government again.
I mean, the problem with that line of argument is that banning Trump from Twitter would literally be shutting down the primary means through which the President of the United States makes official policy statements. That's not a can of worms you want to open lightly. At the very least, you'd need airtight proof that he a) broke Twitter's rules and b) the rules that he broke is one that Twitter normally enforces.

Twitter’s rules allow them to ban someone for any reason, it’s not a can of worms. Likewise Twitter as a private company has no obligation to repeate government statements.
Now twitter won’t do it, it would be like removing the Russian bot networks, the stalkers or the abusers, that’s Twitter’s entire userbase, Twitter is built to make money from hatred, abuse, stalking, lies and bots.
“And the Bunny nails it!” ~ Gabrael “If the UN can get through a day without everyone strangling everyone else so can we.” ~ CyranOne thing which a lot of Alt-right assholes miss is the fact that the very private company rules they champion mean that as private companies, they can kick out anyone they want at any time for any reason.

Author of The Rules of Supervillainy, Cthulhu Armageddon, and United States of Monsters.Honestly, the only candidate I probably wouldn't vote for would be Gabbard, if I wanted to see an Islamophobe President who has shady ties to foreign dictators then I would just turn on the TV.
I'm all for voting for the lesser evil but I don't really see any reason to believe that she qualifies as that.
"Einstein would turn over in his grave. Not only does God play dice, the dice are loaded." -Chairman Sheng-Ji YangI'm not saying I would vote for Bloomberg IN THE PRIMARY but even if you think he's not nearly left enough for the Democrats (I feel the same way), the simple fact is actually knows his hands from his ass which would change America's status greatly.

Ehh. Gabbard's certainly bad, because as you said, Islamophobe with shady ties foreign dictators, but given, as you also said, that's also true of Trump, she'd still represent an improvement over him; he after all has many flaws that she doesn't share.
Like, she'd be my last choice in Primaries, but I'd have to learn a lot more that's bad about her for her to de-throne Trump as the greater of two evils.

I would say she's that bad.
Here's a twitter thread with all the ways she's awful
, it's not an exaggeration to say that she's worse then literally every Democrat.
I'm willing to tolerate a lot when it comes to opposing Donald Trump, but Gabbard? She's too far.

"Einstein would turn over in his grave. Not only does God play dice, the dice are loaded." -Chairman Sheng-Ji YangGabbard would also do huge damage to the Democratic Party by tainting it for years with her touch. If she lost the party could rethink itself and adjust, if she won that’d be it, the Democratic Party would probably be lost to islamaphobia, homophobia and dictator apologia for a generation.
She’d make a strong argument for voting third party because not only would a third party candidate be a better choice but a vote for them would represent a strong statement that such open bigotry and fetishisation of dictatorship is not acceptable.
Now here’s the tricky question, if Sanders was the candidate and picked Gabbard as his VP? What then? Vote for Sanders then push for Gabbard to be impeached and replaced with someone reasonable?
“And the Bunny nails it!” ~ Gabrael “If the UN can get through a day without everyone strangling everyone else so can we.” ~ CyranBased on what I've seen from her supporters/apologists?
She's pretty and said nice things about Saint Bernie.
Neither of which are very impressive things to bring to the table, thankfully, she has very little chance.

For some people that’s a plus.
“And the Bunny nails it!” ~ Gabrael “If the UN can get through a day without everyone strangling everyone else so can we.” ~ CyranI think you guys will appreciate this, since I know a lot of you are fond of calling Mc Connell “Evil Turtle”

I do however pity greatly whoever has to listen to his voice and his incoherent bullshit for useful information.
