Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

Besides, "shady ties" are not a crime. The better part of all businesspeople in the US would be in jail if links to foreign countries and businesses were by itself a reason to suspicion.

See, this isn't Capitalism though. Usually anarchists mean this in the sense of "getting rid of company hierarchies" and workers collectives and the such, not so much a Capitalist framework.
But I digress. Its rather off-topic, too.

And this is the result of 'media outlets' like Jones' constantly inciting hate. People will eventually act on it, with fatal results for the people surrounding them. I'm honestly surprised we don't get more of these kinds of stories, all things considered.

I hold the secrets of the machine.Meh, fascist and reactionary ideologies are inherently murderous especially when you factor in the ever-present conspiracy theories and the mental imbalances of some of their members.
It doesn't surprise me in the slightest.

I used to like Alex Jones. He was entertaining as shit when I assumed we were all in on the joke.
....
Okay, damn, I'm with you that this article is just one WTF after another.
I should also mention I thought they were saying Uhura from Star Trek.

Author of The Rules of Supervillainy, Cthulhu Armageddon, and United States of Monsters. With regards to Bernie, I honestly think the question of whether he should be even be permitted to enter the Democratic Primary is a blunt no regardless of his merits and here's why:
Bernie Sanders is not a Democrat.
He's not! He ran in 2016 on the promise that he'd totes change over from Independent to Democrat later, but he never did. Two years later, Sanders is still not a Democrat.
Sanders doesn't want to be one of us. He wants to dictate to us. To count himself as above us, different from us, better than us, but to also issue commands as to how we must be run. Until such a time as he deigns to register himself as a Democrat, his merits don't even matter.
If Donald Trump in 2020 threw his name in the hat for the Democratic Primaries, would we entertain the notion? If you aren't a Democrat, you shouldn't be eligible for the Democratic nomination. This feels like one of those Air Bud rules where it's so goddamn obvious that nobody ever bothered actually making a rule saying that only Democrats could be given the Democratic Party's nomination.

I am incredibly sympathetic to this argument but I don't think it would be worth it.
Sanders' refusal to become a Democrat is symbolic of his annoying insistence to be generally contrarian but it's just that, a symbol and not even an important one at that. Changing the rules so that he could only run if he signed up as a Democrat while Just would be the metaphorical equivalent of kicking the hornet's nest, it would cause massive amounts of disorder for very little gain.
I strongly dislike Sander's refusal to become a Democrat but this isn't a good idea as lovely as it would be.

The awful things he says and does are burned into our cultural consciousness like a CRT display left on the same picture too long. -FighteerHe registered as a Democrat during the primaries, then went back to no party affiliation after he lost.
Sanders has made a 30-year political career on being an "outsider" by not being a registered Democrat... but using their political machinery when doing so benefits him. He knew that an independent presidential run was doomed, so he officially joined as a Democrat in order to gain the party's support, and then bailed on that as soon as he could.
This is shameless, cynical political maneuvering that maximizes his own personal benefit while doing nothing to help anyone else. It allows him to benefit from his association with the Democratic party while preventing them from benefiting from his support in return.
If you want to be a Democrat, be a Democrat. If you want to be independent, be independent. But don't trumpet your cred as an independent while using the Democratic party's political infrastructure to your benefit and offering nothing in return.
Really from Jupiter, but not an alien.I was never very fond of Bernie, even back in the 2016 elections. Mostly because the ideas and plans he had were borderline unrealistic unless everything was controlled by the right party. And we have people that think he should run in 2020 despite this and despite his age. And I've heard others say that Biden shouldn't run for the same reasons, but at least Biden is younger than Bernie, even if it's not by much. Hell, Trump is the oldest person to win the presidency.

It's a question of priority, a corrupt businessman with shady ties to foreign entities in New York is no way unusual but a corrupt politician with shady ties to foreign entities is a completely different ball game entirely.
They didn't have any reason to give him their attention before but they did now.
