Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

I hold the secrets of the machine.Trump says shutdown could last ‘months or even years'
.
Yes, as stated a few times beforehand in this thread, if a Senate majority votes to do so, they can override his veto and pass the spending bill. The problem is that it's the GOP holding the majority, and so far they haven't dared to actually use their lawfully granted power to contravene any of his bullshit in the past two years, because they know this will earn them perpetual hostility from him and his supporters.

Fiat iustitia, et pereat mundus.Sunk Cost Fallacy at its finest.
Remember, these idiots drive, fuck, and vote. Not always in that order. Not a Senate majority. Two thirds majorities in both houses. Needs 19 Republican senators and 55 Republican representatives, that is.
An interesting opinion taken by one government union
. Let's see if after some missed paychecks and financial troubles, they'll still be supporting.

It's definitely going to be interesting. There's no doubt this will be the longest government shutdown ever. The GOP in the senate could override any veto from the president, but they care more about their image/reputation than they do the people.
If this lasts for more than a month, they're going to face hell no matter what, probably from their own base too, since this shutdown is costing the country more money the longer it lasts.

This is just like when the Texas GOP tried to smear Beto by saying "He was in a band!" It really is amusing how the Republicans' attempts to "own" Democrats only serve to make them look like relatable, interesting human beings.
"Somehow the hated have to walk a tightrope, while those who hate do not."Doesn't wanting to make Mexico pay for the wallnote kinda counts as wanting to outsource the job?
