Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

Something to consider, food for thought but could the yellow vest movement spread to America? I know there have been movements in the past like Occupy Wallstreet, and these Government shutdowns are screwing over a lot of people,so you have more ample reasons for protests

Sadly, America doesn't have a real history with Radical Socialist Movements akin to the Yellow Vests and Sans-culottes that France has. Any Socialist Movement in the United States has always been overly pacifist and usually confined only to the poor in the Cities. There's also the problem that in America, the Poor that would benefit the most from a Yellow Vest movement would be the ones to side with the Republicans and the Trumpeteers, not the Democrats.
It should be remembered that the biggest change in American Society was brought about by the Civil Rights Movement, which was (for the most part) entirely pacifistic.
Militant fury generally results in people digging in their heels and doing nothing while making the situation a whole lot worse. Only time it's justifiable (and in most cases it isn't) is if the Government itself is so boneheaded and vicious that nothing short of Militant Fury will force it to change, usually by overthrow.
That situation does not exist in France, nor in America. So those Gillets-Jaunes might have legitimate grievances, but their unruly mob-like approach isn't going to win them any favours.
I hold the secrets of the machine.I recall the police threatened to join them at one point but they eventually got the government to agree to their demands, wouldn't suprise if thats the main reason why the protests are winding down, people protested and got what they wanted and the ones remaining aren't the ones that started the movement

Trump signs EO freezing the Federal Employee's pay raise that was due to effect in January
Well, he said he'd run the Government like he did his businesses. Screwing over the people working for him.
