Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

that screams indentured servitude to me.
I got nothing against President Jolie. I just want to see Congresswoman Jolie, Senator Jolie or Governer Jolie first.
Pretty much the same goes for all the other celebrity candidates. After all, before the harassment scandal that brought him down President Franken was not outside the realms of possiblity.

No, they're still employed and they will still eventually get their back-pay (probably).
For those that have enough savings, it's like an exceedingly stressful vacation. For those living paycheck to paycheck, it's much worse.
And for government contractors or small business owners that rely on the business of federal workers, well, they're just absolutely boned.
Found a Youtube Channel with political stances you want to share? Hop on over to this page and add them.So here's one that ticked me off. In another political forum I'm in, someone expressed the good ol' "The shutdown and my stocks tanking are worth it if it pisses off the liberals!" sentiment (and yes, in so many words). I called him out for it - none too politely, I'll admit - and subsequently got banned because the mod felt I couldn't take disagreement.
I will never understand the mentality of those who hold a political view out of pure spite for some nebulous group they don't like.
Honestly, that doesn't even seem like a good fit for this one. It's not out of protectionism, it's just out of pure spite - the former I can understand, but the latter... not so much.

"Why would I inflict myself on somebody else?"It's called tribalism, and stems from a worldview where the world is too dangerous for individuals to survive in, and so you must remain loyal to your group, whatever that group may be. Its a little like trying to prove to a Yankees fan that the Boston Red Socks deserve their victory.
I'm done trying to sound smart. "Clear" is the new smart.Disinformation campaign targeting Roy Moore’s Senate bid may have violated law, Alabama attorney general says
An excerpt:
“The information is concerning,” Marshall, a Republican, said in a phone interview. “The impact it had on the election is something that’s significant for us to explore, and we’ll go from there.”
Moore lost the election to Democrat Doug Jones.
Marshall, who said he learned of the disinformation campaign called Project Birmingham through news reports over the past two weeks, stopped short of announcing a formal investigation but said his office was beginning to gather information about the effort.
“We’re planning to explore the issue further,” Marshall said.
Jones on Thursday also reiterated his support for a federal investigation into the matter, days after the Alabama Democratic senator said that the Federal Election Commission and the Department of Justice should study the effects of disinformation on the race. Jones added he had directed his team “to prepare a formal request to file with the appropriate federal authorities who have jurisdiction.”
“Illegal influence operations are a serious threat to our democracy, regardless of where these activities originate or who they seek to support,” Jones said.
The FEC did not respond to a request for comment.

Unfortunately, the elections board has dispersed
, meaning that a new election being held just got a much higher bar. That said, it also means they did so without certifying the results in the race, making it that much more contentious.

"Why would I inflict myself on somebody else?"Just a thing here: the whole japanise interm camp is wrongfully in the sense they use faulty logic and goals(the presumtion that japanise americans were spies send to japan) which reach insane troll logic(to quote Dewitt, the idiot in charge of that "The fact we havent found any spies show they have hiding something").
So yeah, they were wrongfully accused.
