Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

I'm far more interested in what Cohen could have discussed with those Russians in Prague. Especially that bit about Russian operatives being eager to meet him and passing notifications along when he came to Prague.
The more I hear, the more it's looking like Trump not only colluded, but actively worked for the Russians in undermining American democracy.
I hope it isn't true. Because that's going to cause the mother of all geopolitical problems.
I hold the secrets of the machine.According to the Steele dossier, Cohen's meeting was about helping cover up the Russian hackers' tracks so that what they did couldn't be connected to the Trump campaign. (Cash payments of some sort were said to be involved, I believe.) If so, that obviously failed, between the dossier itself and everything Mueller knows and is still discovering. Sucks to be Team Drumpf!
Not sure if this was already brought up but:
CNN's Don Lemon airs 2013 clip of Trump saying Obama should be 'fired' over shutdown
"If you say, 'Who gets fired?' it always has to be the top," Trump said on Fox News in 2013.
"The problems start from the top and they have to get solved from the top. The president is the leader, he has to get everyone in a room and lead," Trump added at the time.
Following the clip, Lemon, a frequent critic of the president, said that the comments were "priceless."
“Donald Trump suggesting that President Barack Obama should have been fired for a government shutdown. Priceless,” Lemon said.
That doesn't surprise me in the slightest, after all there is an entire subreddit for old Trump tweets that apply to himself
.

"Einstein would turn over in his grave. Not only does God play dice, the dice are loaded." -Chairman Sheng-Ji YangWhen reading your post I automatically substituted in the word 'always' without breaking stride, so I didn't even realize it was missing.
Weird.

"Einstein would turn over in his grave. Not only does God play dice, the dice are loaded." -Chairman Sheng-Ji YangYou know, this is a nitpick, but it kind of bothers me that article refers to Japanese-Americans being "wrongfully" imprisoned.
It's insulating the government from their fuckup. They weren't wrongfully imprisoned in the sense that "oops, got the wrong guy!" They imprisoned exactly who they wanted. It's outrageous that it happened, but the government didn't accidentally do it. It wasn't a rogue operation. The executive order went through the proper channels.
Like, I know that an investigation eventually came out to say "hey... maybe there wasn't a need to do this" and the official stance is that it was a mistake, but it just sort of feels like it's distancing how deliberately terrible the decision was.

Angelina Jolie doesn't dismiss the idea of running for President
In an interview on the BBC's Today programme, she said she would have dismissed this 20 years ago but would now go where she was needed.
Jolie, who is a special envoy to the UN Refugee Agency, was the guest editor of the Today programme on Friday.
She is an active campaigner on a range of issues, including refugees, sexual violence and conservation.
In a wide-ranging interview with presenter Justin Webb, she discussed US politics, social media, sexual violence and the global refugee crisis.
When asked whether she would consider getting involved in politics, she said: "If you asked me 20 years ago, I would've laughed... I always say I'll go where I'm needed, I don't know if I'm fit for politics… but then I've also joked that I don't know if I have a skeleton left in my closet".
"I'm also able to work with governments and I'm also able to work with militaries, and so I sit in a very interesting place of being able to get a lot done."
She added that "for now", she would stay quiet.
When Webb suggested that meant she could be on the list of 30 to 40 Democrats running for the party's presidential nomination, she did not say no, replying "thank you".
Jolie is one of a range of guest editors, including David Dimbleby and Martha Lane Fox, who are taking charge of the programme between 22 December to 1 January.
She also discussed the difficulties of monitoring her children's social media activities, highlighting that like "most parents", she cannot control everything they are exposed to.
"There are certain realities to teenagers and also our generation doesn't understand half of what they are doing with their tech so they can get around us pretty easy", she said.
She added that none of her children have asked to join Facebook, and she herself is not a member.
"We're the last family that hasn't gone on Facebook!" she said.
Jolie is also working with the BBC on a new weekly children's news programme, Our World, which will be piloted in the new year.
She will serve as executive producer on the show, aimed at seven to 12-year-olds, which hopes to engage children with international news, focusing on subjects like tech, the environment and social media.
"As a mother, I'm so happy I will be able to sit and watch with my children and know they're getting a real international sense of the world," she said.

... Considering we also got information recently that proves Michael Cohen was in Prague in 2016 (something that was in the Dossier that helped start the investigation), could this be evidence of the Golden Shower Tapes existence?
