Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

Sure, but projections are only as good as the data you have and for special elections, the data tends to be spotty because it is difficult to predict who will come out to vote and who won't. Will overconfidence ensure that Republicans stay at home? Will the Democrats be energized or dispirited because the chance is so small in the first place? Are there maybe more voters who draw a line when "hanging" is thrown into the room than one would expect?
Also: Did you notice that a corruption charge which was properly investigated and ended with the accused not being convicted is considered "baggage", while those same voters who will see it that way are obviously really into the innocent into proven guilty concept regarding accusations of sexual assault towards a potential supreme court judge?
Trump White House issues climate change report undermining its own policy
The report is required by a law in place since 1990, which is why the White House has to release it, however grudgingly. However, they did rush to publish the assessment ahead of schedule on Black Friday, a move some scientists saw as an attempt to bury the findings. And now that it’s out, Trump told reporters Monday, he “didn’t believe it.”
I remember he did talk about establishing a Trump TV in the primaries.
So apparently Paul Manafort violated his plea agreement and lied to the investigators of the probe into Russia.
Details to come soon.
Edit: A few small details.

In other news, Gallup has Trump's weekly disapproval at 60% (38% approve), the highest its been since late 2017 (when the tax cut was passed).

Sure, its only one week, and Gallup is constantly going up and down each week (often alternating), but its something.
Politics is the skilled use of blunt objects.
