Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

In all honesty? Yes most people will :/
County commissioner under fire for comment about "master race."
Trump itself is not that important on is own, is what he does it should be weary.
let face it, trump got a lot of popularity because he made the idea of breaking establish ideas intersting, there is and appeling to tell politician you dont like to fuck off(I mean, who many of us wont miss a change to tell Bannon, Pence, Mitchell, Devos or many they are awfull in public).
There is also the idea that your side is not person while your sides is, I call it overhumanization and it happen a lot with white people which is why is so dificult to have this conversation, is easy to republican to said they are just person who JUST happen to have awfull idea rather than....well, being awfull people.
"My Name is Bolt, Bolt Crank and I dont care if you believe or not"There arn't many avowed Nazi's but they act as a signifier-if they can get away with hate crimes in public then fence sitters are emboldened to see what they can get away with-like electing nationalists. It's a variation of the broken windows theory (the original one)-if the alt-right is seen becoming more extreme then the center shifts right as well. You can't ignore extremists, they carry more symbolic weight than their numbers might indicate.
I'm done trying to sound smart. "Clear" is the new smart.Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is on instagram live
making soup and answering constituent questions. She talked about Pelosi and is now talking about the Library of Congress. Here’s a quick recap via twitter thread.
Both and neither, I'd say. The cynical way of looking at it is that she's choosing to communicate in a way that she knows will play well with her base; maintaining the persona that got her elected. So even if the nuts and bolts are different, the intention behind them is something we see all the time in politics.

I believe she does/will be doing constituent town halls as well, but man, it’d be so convenient to be able to ask my congresswoman questions on social media and get real time answers. Like, I’ve emailed my Congressswoman’s office and left voicemails and I get awful, awful form letters that 90% of the time don’t even answer my question.
And mods doing their jobs and giving people banhammers will just lead to inevitable accusations of echo chambers, silencing dissent, etc.
Because if the Internet has accomplished nothing else, it's shown the world that there's no end to the reactionary dregs suddenly concerned about not having every platform available to them by default.
Still not embarrassing enough to stan billionaires or tech companies.Last Week Tonight with John Oliver takes a look at authoritarianism.
Good gravy, that quote from that Trump supporter about Jesus... (shakes head)
Oooooookay, I finally have the time to post again.
>Elon Musk: The moment I saw the picture, I knew deep down, Elon would respond at some point. He always does. The rest of the video was great, by the by.
>Ocasio-Cortez: Apparently she made a slip up about the three branches of government and now there's a bunch of people/trolls/bots going after her on Twitter. God forbid she make an error...
>Far-Right Extremism: This
article shows that there was a spike in hate crimes last year, after increases the two years before. So even if they are few in number, there is an increasing trend of people willing to attack others for their race, sex, gender identity, etc.
And those are the ones that make it to the FBI for crime statistics or are reported correctly.
The I’m not sure if it was mentioned here, but did you guys know that Raking can stop forest fires
