Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

It's been pointed out Mike Pence bears a almost unnerving resemblance in appearance and personality to X-Men villain Reverend William Stryker
◊, a religious fanatic who thinks Mutants are an abomination to God. Replace mutants with homosexuals and it's literally Pence.
Literally the same person.

"All you Fascists bound to lose."Pence also looks unsettlingly like Race Bannon
.
So some thoughts, we've still got runoffs to happen (Mississippi at least) and Trump looks to be starting his purge now. I wonder if Trump's purge could impact the runoffs.
“And the Bunny nails it!” ~ Gabrael “If the UN can get through a day without everyone strangling everyone else so can we.” ~ CyranYeah, he's very openly moving to try and stop Muller now and may chuck several other cabinet members out. That chaos isn't going to do well for Trump's approval rating and I'm wondering if it could impact the runoffs.
“And the Bunny nails it!” ~ Gabrael “If the UN can get through a day without everyone strangling everyone else so can we.” ~ CyranA realisation hit me with regards to Trump's loses,if the Republican party thinks they're going to lose the 2020 election and they're desperate to hold on to power they might try to remove Trump before that date arrives, get someone else in so when the election day comes they have someone else to vote for.Of course removing Trump might give the democrats even more of a boost
It's hard to what will happen in the future,if Muller's investigation does lead to impeachment it would be a convenient way to remove Trump from power but still have the Republicans in control of the country
have a listen and have a link to my discord serverI mean, shaking up the cabinet is a pretty common response to losses like that, and shaking up the cabinet is a thing Trump does more than most. The question wasn't whether somebody would resign, it was 'who will resign'. And Sessions, as the guy Trump's openly disliked for awhile, was kind of the obvious choice.
Doubtful. Trump is the most popular thing about the Republican party, and certainly more popular than the complete absence of charisma that is Mike Pence
A Twitter thread on how the Acting AG can't just slash the budget of the Mueller probe (not until next fall), nor fire or obstruct him without risk.

Yeah there's the basic fact that if blocking the probe was easy and without risk Sessions would have done it himself, Muller isn't someone to fuck with, being loyal enough to do terrible things for Trump is one thing, being loyal enough to go to jail for obstruction of justice is another.
Whitaker can try and obstruct things but he's got one big limiter, that obstruction of justice is a crime and Muller is a serious enough individual that he might look at charging Whitaker with it if he does try and obstruct.

claims that the GOP had a net gain of two seats in the Senate, for a grand total of 51. I thought they already had 50 seats before this election.

Fiat iustitia, et pereat mundus. It is still funny how hard he tries to relate to us hughmanz by posting that Zodiac Killer joke a few times. Who knows, maybe it is proof that he is a time traveling alien.
Don't catch you slippin' now.
x3 Weird, they won 4 States (North Dakota, Missouri, Florida and Indiana) and lost 1 (Nevada), for a total of +3. Even if they lose Arizona and Mississippi (Special Election), they'd still have a +1, and would have 52 Seats (they started with 51), meaning nothing major would've changed, but Republicans would still hold the Senate.

he's a skrull
