Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

We're fine.
Mueller likely has a plan if he's forced to turn over his finding already and the investigation can continue and in fact escalate now that we have the House.
We now have a ton of congressional resources at our command and can issue subpoenas and start other parallel investigations in addition to anything Mueller is doing.

Oh really when?I mean, the Democrats having the House has to help at least a little, right?
I really don't want to become one of those "Oh woe is me, the sky is falling, the end of all things has come" people
Not fucked at all.
With the House, we can propose legislation and thoroughly investigate the White House, both of which can help prepare for the 2020 President and Senate elections.
Realistically the midterm was a decent victory with some disappointing things (the governorships) that stopped it from being a clear victory.

I was watching MSNBC just now, and they had a guy who worked with Mueller for years who said he always has a contingency plan.
So, basically, things have gotten a little more hairy, but we're not completely off the rails yet
That's the hope, anyway
Edit: Boy, do I feel sorry for Rachel Maddow tonight. Her flow chart of firings has got to be too big to display now

The hardest thing in this world is to live in it.If the investigation ends here, the investigation ends here. We have other ways to take down Trump, the investigation and impeachment route were always a longshot. Hell, even if Mueller found a smoking gun the Republicans in congress would deny it outright, there's no way we could have impeached Trump while the Republicans still own the Senate. Its better to focus on more traditional means to fight the president and the Republicans.
While I agree that impeachment is not a realistic end to Trump's administration I do not agree that the investigation is thus irrelevant, thoroughly investigating Trump and his White House will be a highly useful tool to ensure those electoral victories. If we can show people how corrupt and diseased he and his cronies are then that will make winning that much easier.
"Einstein would turn over in his grave. Not only does God play dice, the dice are loaded." -Chairman Sheng-Ji YangThis is a thing that I've been wanting to ask for a while now: What's with the whole "[State name] [number]" thing?
Fiat iustitia, et pereat mundus.Congressional districts. In this case, the 49th District of the State of California
(of which there are 53).
