Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

Brown, Baldwin, Casey, and Stabenow all voted against Kavanaugh and won, Trump won states.
I think that's because these states (Ohio, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania and Michigan) voted for Trump's economy policies and not because of his party or his court appointments.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanI’m hearing good news about Montana? Apparently Tester’s back in the lead and will PROBABLY stay there?
Oh God! Natural light!Because he was exonerated.
I mean, he wasn't. He absolutely wasn't. But that's the state of rape culture in America. Any rape accusation that fails to end in a solid conviction is interpreted by Conservatives as "Lying bitch made up some bullshit to ruin a man's life."
Since Kavanaugh was ultimately confirmed, the Right and their voterbase see that as proof that the whole allegation (and, by extension, the #MeToo movement) was a duplicitous scheme by Democrats to invent fake scandals against good, honest Conservative men.
Now, those people don't speak for all of America. But they are a not-insignificant percentage of the voterbase. It's just another way that liberals and conservatives live in extremely different interpretations of the same basic facts. Liberals are mad that an obvious rapist was confirmed to the Supreme Court, while conservatives are mad that liberals would demean their unimpeachable candidate by trying to smear him with fake allegations of rape.

My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.Google's AP feed still insists that the Senate election currently holds at 51 R, 43 D, 2 Other. What's with the hold-up on the remaining seats?
Fiat iustitia, et pereat mundus.Bloody hell. I couldn't help but be drawn into Trump's speech after the election. He's basically pulled a big You Have Failed Me on all the Reps who got voted out. (And also said he'll use the Senate to investigate the House if they investigate him. Headache aside, is that even possible?)
We can choose to be better.Well, here in Michigan we elected a democrat governor, in a Trump state, so it looks like he lost us. Also, 3 ballot proposals passed: one for legalized marijuana, one to undo jerrymandering, and one to protect voting rights. So—all good here.

I'm done trying to sound smart. "Clear" is the new smart.Ok so Trump was just asked about whether or not he'll fire Mueller or declassify documents but he said he's not going to fire anybody (he doesn't like it politically, whatever that means) but that it's a disgrace with vague accusations of conflicts, and that he's looking into declassifying documents (which I take to mean that no, he's not even looked at the documents in question.)
God he’s desperate...
According to NBC News, Voters Nationwide Disapprove of the so-called Mueller Investigation (46%) more than they Approve (41%). You mean they are finally beginning to understand what a disgusting Witch Hunt, led by 17 Angry Democrats, is all about!
And as an added bonus, maybe Ryan Zinke will now has to contend with an legitimate ethics investigation by the House, if we’re lucky.

the Secretary of the Interior. I have a particular loathing for him. here’s a list of his voting history on public land and the environment.
He’s rated as a 4 percent.
He’s already facing an investigation by the Justice Department on Conflicts of interest
, but hopefully the House can do so as well.

So look at what I found here
about Kris Kobach. Because oy wey.
Here is a link on Tester's win.
https://www.cnn.com/2018/11/07/politics/jon-tester-montana/index.html
In other news; Trump got in a pissing match with Acosta again.
Politics is the skilled use of blunt objects.

Something I did see in one article that has proven out this election ...
Both of the Dem senators who lost their seats? Women running in Trump-heavy states.
Coincidence?
