Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

@The Wanderer You'd have to wring my mom's neck to do that, which means you'll have to wait in line because I got first dibs. I've been arguing with her about why she voted wrong all week. She just kept repeating the same "I believe you should always vote with your values" crap every time. Apparently, she was convinced of this because the Green candidate was on NPR whining about how both the Democrats and the Republicans were bullying her and telling her not to run because she stood no chance.

@Silasw Not quite yet-Democrats are leading the House, but there are still a large number of toss ups.

Yeah news on Nevada, they won't release results while people are still in line to vote, which apparently they still are.
Apparently they currently have control of the state house and are predicted to maintain it.

“And the Bunny nails it!” ~ Gabrael “If the UN can get through a day without everyone strangling everyone else so can we.” ~ CyranHeh. Well, needless to say, I won't be wringing any necks, but my fucking god the frustration... did people learn nothing from, say, voting your values getting George W. Bush getting put in the White House and deciding it was time to make Saddam pay, even though there was no plan for what to do with Iraq or the rest of the Middle East afterward. How about the way anti-Clinton value voters got Agent Orange in the White House?
I mean, would you rather have someone who you agree with 70% and can hold accountable if they don't work with you, or someone who agrees with you 10% and will literally make it their job to ignore you and mock your every concern and value?
I just don't get it. All I can is say is it's a comfort to know I'm not the only one feeling this way. Apologies to all for my earlier hyperbole, including Pushover and Pushover's mom.
I'm currently worried sick about the governor's race in CT. Lamont is very slowly making up the deficit with the Republican, but he's running out of time in which to do it. And the outgoing Democratic governor is notoriously unpopular, (as in, among the most unpopular governors in the country unpopular) and a Republican is running on the Libertarian ticket, and, IIRC, actively campaigning to split votes from Democrats. It's a hell of an uphill climb, and I don't know if Lamont has enough voters left or enough electoral savvy to pull it off.

| Wandering, but not lost. | If people bring so much courage to this world...◊ |South Dakota governorship has been called for the Republicans.
Also we can expect another 50,000 ballots to be counted in Wisconsin soon, where the Republican is leading the governors race by less than 2,000 votes.
“And the Bunny nails it!” ~ Gabrael “If the UN can get through a day without everyone strangling everyone else so can we.” ~ CyranUpdate: Lamont has made up some of the ground, but with 73% of the votes counted he's still behind by over 20K votes, currently it's roughly 513,500 to 492,000 with Lamont down. Still quite a few votes to be counted, but I'd feel a lot better if that deficit was about half what it is.
| Wandering, but not lost. | If people bring so much courage to this world...◊ |There's still plenty of hope left for Sinema, though, as infuriating the Green party is. Maricopa (my district, actually) leans towards her by 1.1%, and only has 13% of their votes counted so far. Maricopa also has WAY more people living in it than in all of the rest of Arizona combined. 4.09 million vs 2.64 million.
Apparently the Nevada numbers are looking good for the democrats and in Arizona the counties left to report are the heavily democrat ones and the democrat doesn't need to make up much ground to take the lead.
It’s be nice to end the night with two wins.
