Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

On that note, a quick local (Idaho) update before I head to bed.
All the key elections are roughly 60/40 in favor of the Republican candidate. Not unexpected. However, there's also a ballot measure to expand Medicaid in this election and it's also at approx. 60/40, with 25% reporting, in favor of passing and has been like that from the get go.

Democrats have picked up the governorships in New Mexico (where they now have a trifecta), Kansas, Illinois (another trifecta) and Michigan. They also have state level trifectas in Colorado and New York now.
Georgia and Florida both sadly look to be lost. The Main governorship is counting slowly but looks to be going to the Democrats, Connecticut is counting slow and could go either way, Iowa has been called for the Republicans (though not by everyone) and Wisconsin is to close to call.
“And the Bunny nails it!” ~ Gabrael “If the UN can get through a day without everyone strangling everyone else so can we.” ~ CyranCurrent numbers have Beto having lost by 3 points, that's pretty impressive, if he narrow that even a little more it will be even better.
I suspect he's going to be looked at as a possible VP candidate, but no as the top of the ticket.
“And the Bunny nails it!” ~ Gabrael “If the UN can get through a day without everyone strangling everyone else so can we.” ~ CyranLe Page was already termed out. But at least his successor won't be another Republican.
An example of why you never, ever, split the vote, and you get someone the fuck out when they put themselves in a situation to do it:
On that note, in Arizona the Republican has a lead of about 10K votes at the moment and there are already over 30K votes for the Green party candidate. If another Senate seat is lost because of voting for the fucking Green party in Arizona, I may just track down every single person who voted Green and wring their necks.
