Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

Honestly? I don't mean to disparage or downplay how truly odious and inhumane the GOP and Trump are, but compared to the situation where I live, these midterms feel like the ending to Return of the Jedi. In contrast, Brazil is going to be ruled by a crook who is just as bad as Donald, and probably turn into the Russia of the tropics for like 2 decades. I don't see an end in sight.
But you all still have the chance to turn things around. I sympathize with the anxieties and anyone who still feel things look bleak, but I hope that you are channeling that into something productive.

So all these sites calling the House for the Dems were premature?
Are we celebrating too soon?
A lot of things would have to start going right for the Republicans at this point for it to switch now. Anything's possible, sure, but at this point it's overwhelmingly likely the Democrats will seize the House.
Two at least. Democrat Mc Caskill lost in Missouri.

She’s a senator, not a congresswoman.
Also, looking at Texas, Georgia, and Florida; remember how much voter suppression and outright, brazen cheating was involved.

And here’s a thread
reminding everyone how hard all the democrat volunteers worked in red states. The work matters.

Do all three of those states really have unusually high amounts of voter suppression/ outright cheating compared to other states? It would be interesting to find out, but in the case of outright cheating we probably will never know without a Federal investigation or something.

Hooooo boy. Not really? Kemp has been BRAZEN. Federal judges have been slapping him down all month/last month. He purged 320,000 voters RIGHT BEFORE the election! Predominantly black voters!
Minnesota flip is huge; wonderful news.

Unreal: Maine district 2 is 44% reporting, and the R and D are 8 votes total apart right now.
