Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations

before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

What do you reckon the chances of getting back the Senate majority are in 2020?
General reminder from writer and activist Clint Hill:
“i’m disappointed about florida & georgia & texas but i also know that organizers in those states have worked their asses off for the past year & have changed the political dynamics of those states in remarkable & potentially paradigm shifting ways that shouldn’t be overlooked”

Well, can't say I'm not bitter right now, especially about the Florida race for Governor and Senate. I was really rooting for Gilliam. But, the House makes at least a good consolation, I guess. At least some bad legislation can be gummed up.

The awful things he says and does are burned into our cultural consciousness like a CRT display left on the same picture too long. -FighteerI've been away from my keyboard for a bit, but skimming the last few pages I'm getting the impression that
- Democrats taking the house is going more or less according to plan.
- We've lost some Senate seats, which is disappointing but doesn't affect that much, in a lot of ways.
- We've snagged some local governments, I saw Colorado and Illinois having gone full Democrat?
In other news, my state, Idaho
, has begun reporting its counts. It's going pretty solid R. That's to be expected. What looks hopeful though is a ballot measure to expand Medicaid in the state. We're still only at single-digits reporting in but the "Yes" is still beating the "no" 66/34.
Eeyup.
My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.Georgia is looking bad, it might go to a run off though.
Florida senate is looking to go to a recount even with the governorship called, it's probably still going to be a loss but at least it's a close one.
For senate numbers we are still really waiting on Nevada and Arizona, Arizona has only a small republican lead and in Nevada apparently nobody knows how to count.
“And the Bunny nails it!” ~ Gabrael “If the UN can get through a day without everyone strangling everyone else so can we.” ~ CyranWell, that's uncalled for. I never said this was a success for Trump. Just that it's a far cry from the gigantic landslide crushing of the GOP that Democrats have been salivating over for the last two years.

Sorry, but I don't get the negativity. Yes, this is only the first step, but if you now act as if taking the house by such a huge margin isn't a win (as well as the voting right amendments in Michigan), you might discourage people. Tomorrow is the time to gear up for the next fight. Today it is time to celebrate. Now there is a chance to investigate Trump properly.

@Swanpride: He was probably going to say that unless they lost on all fronts which was never likely.
I have to say though, was the House map always that favorable towards Democrats and viseversa for Republicans and the Senate. I mean yes I know they were, but I didn't think there would be that big of swing on both the sides of Congress.

The point being you keep going on about something no one (at least not here) was even saying...

I think there is a good chance that Trump will be the first two term president to never win the popular vote.
