Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

Yep, they even include a few races where the Republican didn't even have an opponent.
On Indiana I was referring to the race being predicted as lean Democrat, the state itself is pretty red.

How much do they control it? This is what was on our ballot.
"Constitutional Amnendment: Yay or nay?
Do you support showing the victims of crimes honor and dignity by giving them a voice in the sentencing of the individuals who harmed them?"
I shit you not, that's the actual amendment vote for the Kentucky constitution.

As of 430pm Pacific time, 538 has the Senate staying the same, and the House going 42 seats towards the Democrats. Half an hour ago it was one seat to the GOP in the Senate, and only 34 House seats. So let's hope it keeps swinging more blue as the night goes on.
That’s the epitome of privilege right there, not considering armed nazis a threat to your life. - SilaswKeep in mind that the numbers are small right now, so any sudden input will cause rapid variance.
We've got a race to 50% reporting though, Virginia 10 has the Dem ahead by 16% with 58% reporting, 538 predicted a 8% point lead by the Dem.
It's also a seat that's currently Republican.
Kentucky 6th is also now at 58% reporting, it's predicted by 538 to give the Republican a 1% point lead, but is currently at a 7% point lead for the Dem.

Oh, in case you didn't believe me about the amendment's wording:
“Are you in favor of providing constitutional rights to victims of crime, including the right to be treated fairly, with dignity and respect, and the right to be informed and to have a voice in the judicial process?”

We’ve seen a ton of stories all day about voting issues, a lot of it voter suppression related. Here’s a quick thread
explaining how John *fucking* Roberts murdered voting rights in 2013 because racism is totally over guys.

A fun little bit of news:
Davis made international news in 2015 when she stopped issuing marriage licenses days after the U.S. Supreme Court ruling, citing her religious beliefs and saying she was acting under “God’s authority.”
23 house gains gives the Dems a majority of 1.
Kentucky 6th (predicted to be a +1% margin for the Republicans) is bloody tight right now, 71% reporting and there are 20 votes in it.
“And the Bunny nails it!” ~ Gabrael “If the UN can get through a day without everyone strangling everyone else so can we.” ~ CyranHow long does an investigation like Mueller’s usually take? I’ve seen people dismiss it as a hoax since it hasn’t found anything yet, but I thought they took a while.

Yeah, just around ten american citizens, not counting the many more russians, indicted for various counts of fraud, conspiracy and false statements, one of which actually served in Trump's cabinet, clearly it's a nothingburger.

Yeah, I can't really blame people for being frustrated (I know I am), but just because the investigation hasn't led to Trump being marched out of the Oval Office in handcuffs, doesn't mean that it hasn't accomplished anything yet.

Someone did tell me life was going to be this way.

Yes. It'll be another few hours before the competitive districts are called
