Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

I personally like voting on election day (because you never know what happens in the last days before the actual election), but then, it is a really relaxing experience over here. Just a little stroll up the street, less than five minutes waiting time if any at all, and then you can decide where to make your cross in peace. And you might meet someone you know on your way.
Well in my case I’m not voting mostly because I was busy the day my votes were due (not with work mind you-I had homework) and Also because I live in Oregon, a solid blue state.
Overall I am slightly apathetic because I’m a staunch conservative, but I also am not very fond of the party’s recent behavior so I don’t really wanna vote for them.

Leviticus 19:34Russian legislators are in the US to "monitor" the midterm elections
Added the air quotes because we know thats a blatant lie,it's far more likely they are involved in spywork,I'd give them the boot for the cheek of showing up,especially after their meddling in the US elections,it's like popping round to visit someone after you've burgled the house
have a listen and have a link to my discord serverWhich is part of why I’m not voting ‘’for’’ the Republicans. The DNC would still need to move a little to the right before I voted for them.
Leviticus 19:34I've seen multiple thinkpieces by certain conservatives telling people to vote Blue because in addition to all the obvious reasons, in the long term it will force the GOP to change to a less toxic and more reasonable center-right party, as opposed to the far-right one they have effectively become now.
@Ultimatum A saying I like is “head stuck so far up their asses it’s back on their shoulders”.
Leviticus 19:34By not voting, he is helping us. Because, as he noted, he's a Republican.
Imagine 50 Red voters and 50 Blue. By Protagonist abstaining, the numbers shift to 49-50. We didn't gain a vote but the numbers still shifted +1 in our favor regardless.
A +2 shift (49-51) would be preferable, but every little bit still helps. Protagonist was never going to vote for us anyway, so we haven't lost anything by him refusing to vote for his party too.
I'll take what I can get. If he was a Democrat, I'd be all about trying to convince him of the importance of voting. But as is, he's helping us to the degree that he's comfortable with by depriving the Republicans of a vote they should by all rights have been guaranteed, and that's good enough for me.

My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.Just saw some rallies by Obama and Trump (reported on Swiss news). I noted that Trump's rally was almost entirely white people and also mostly (but less overwhelmingly) men. Obama's rally was half black and half white and mostly female.
Telling, I must say.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanGallup's final measure of Trump's approval before Tuesday is 40%/54%, unchanged from last week. Should be noted (again) that previous Presidents with higher net approval ratings took substantial losses in their first Midterm.

Politics is the skilled use of blunt objects.

So if you mail in your ballot do you get your sticker in the mail or what?
Oh really when?
