Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

Trying to read more into than that is silly. Though it might be a good place to start the hunt. The bomber might have picked her because he lived near her office so the routing would match, for example.
Ooo, that's a good point. A package from DWS has a better chance of making it through security than one from, say, Joe Bob Fakename. At the same time, DWS isn't a huge public figure, so it's still coming from someone who's low enough profile to slip past the "Why would Barack Obama send me a package and not have told me about it ahead of time?" test.
That's a pretty solid explanation. Alright, I'm no longer eyeballing the Bernie Bros for this.

I mean, hating other humans can be entirely rational. I think Tactical Fox gets a bit.... overexcited sometimes, but the point still stands.

Considering they actually want to take away my Civil Rights, I'll hate them if I please. Their 'policies' can actually have a direct impact on my life.
There's a saying for this. 'Cool motive, still murder.'

The awful things he says and does are burned into our cultural consciousness like a CRT display left on the same picture too long. -FighteerDon't you think you're kind of just repeating a platitude here? You're talking about a white supremacist party whose policies disenfranchise millions of people and which is dooming the world via its climate change denial. This isn't an "agree to disagree" situation, there's nothing about the GOP's ideology or practices that's worth respecting. Nobody contests that the GOP are people with their own stories, it's just that it doesn't make them any more sympathetic or people who can be compromised with. They deserve to be hated.

There's also this possibility - that the bomber lives in DWS' district in Florida, and used her office as a handy means to avoid suspicion when dropping them off.
That said, the bombs literally could not have been over 13 ounces, as the USPS has strict guidelines on it requiring a metered strip on them after that point. Either that, or a few postal employees are going to get some serious reprimands, if not firings, because of this. Oddly enough, though, when I shipped out a package as a large envelope for a customer sending a care package to his daughters at summer camp, that wound up getting returned because of the rolls of Smarties candies inside getting kicked out by the machinery - so how the hell could a pipe-bomb clear that? Referencing the guide I've got for postal prices, it would have to be a maximum of 8 oz. as a package in order to get through with just $3.50 worth of postage stamps.

That could backfire if the bomber turns out to be some sorta fringe Unabomber style nutter, or something else that really can't be linked to Trump.
That said, go nuts. Twitter is already on fire with false flag BS, so as long as people are willing to accept egg on their face if they are wrong later, call this individual(s) what you want.
I'll stick with calling them "Domestic Terrorist".

Politics is the skilled use of blunt objects.Nah, hate is the perfect word.
And what does being human have to do with anything? Humans can be monsters. We have the history to prove it.
And here's the difference. I may hate them, but I sure as sin am never going to deny their humanity.
We hate them for their actions. They hate most of us for simply the way we just look.
There is a saying (well, kind of a saying) in Germany which boils down "I am tolerant towards everything but intolerance". Basically, there is a time at which discussions or "finding a common ground" is over, when you have to stop being "understanding". The time comes, when the point of view of someone else actually gets other people hurt.
The Republicans have crossed this line a long time ago.
The thought that keeps scaring me isn’t just the possibility of more bombs (after all the first bomb arrived two days ago) but that whoever did this had more than bombs in mind, the FBI are going to find this person, that’s obvious, so I’m worried that their plan is to do something big before the FBI is able to track them down.
I hope to god that Pelosi has an increased security detail right now.

I believe that would fall under the Paradox of Tolerance
as defined by Karl Popper, in 1945:
It’s wordy and uses the word tolerance way to many times, but I think the general idea is reasonably understandable.

Put in a more laconic fashion - the seeming Logic Bomb of "You're intolerant because you don't tolerate my intolerance!" isn't actually a paradox.
"Why would I inflict myself on somebody else?"Well, Europe spend a LOT of time thinking about those issues. And West Germany doubly so.
It isn't, though rightwingers really love to push the idea that it is.
Btw, I bet that Trump will make a big deal over the bomb which never was which was send to him and that Fox news will try to spin this as a general attack on the political system while glossing over the fact that the target all had something very obvious in common.

I fully expect Fox News pundits to feign sympathy or horror at best and claim that the libs are to blame because c i v i l i t y at worst. Basically, the GOP uses Why Did You Make Me Hit You? logic a lot. Their rabid and hysterical defense of Kavanaugh had those undertones as well.

The remaining days of the week is gonna be LOOOOOOONG

I'm now getting reports that Andrew Cuomo has also been sent a bomb. So far, that's about 7-8 Democratic Politicians/Trump hate Targets that have been sent a bomb.
And considering that Soros was sent a bomb yesterday, and we've now gotten a large bulk of bombs today, I wouldn't be surprised if tomorrow Pelosi, Schumer, (Bernie) Sanders and others are going to get bombs too.
