There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations

before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules

In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

If we go with the premise that the attacker was a leftist that still leaves Soros as the odd man out for your standard “Bernie Bro”, and he was a primary target unlike DWS. It would have to be someone far nuttier then your average “Bernie Bro”, like somekind of Neo-Weatherman or a CPUSA member finally gone militant.
Given that the expectation that it’s some right-winger either casting a wide net or being slightly clever.
While we don't have the data for who could possibly have tried this insane act of domestic terrorism, it won't stop people from assuming their political leanings.
I can just bet whoever it may be is no friend of the Democrat Party. Whether s/he's right-wing or not is for a full investigation to show.
I'd hate to be that person though - knowing the FBI, s/he won't last a month before they end up in custody.
I hold the secrets of the machine.Given who controls the DOJ at the moment, finding the bomber may not be a priority for the FBI.
My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.Bombs may still be en route. But yes, the list of popular Republican Hate Sinks that the bomber didn't try to kill may be of interest if it turns out they're not.
My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub. This story fills me with a lot of fear and disgust.
Regarding perpetrators, I figure right wing not (nut is guaranteed, right wing is most likely). I'm not a fan of Berners, but not only are they not the types to engage in terrorism, but besides DWS and the Clintons, the targets don't come across as people who would be on their "enemies list". Most obviously, Soros is really only a target of ire for anti-semitic (consciously or otherwise) right wing kooks.
If I were making a guess/analysis, I'd say that the perpetrator was targeting some combination of liberal people who were right wing bugbears and liberal people who were understood to be Democratic party leaders.
That being said, although it's a small subset, there are people like Roseanne Barr that went from being crazy far left to crazy far right, and I could definitely see someone of that ilk hating DWS as much as they hated Soros.

Being a somewhat cynical sort, I think this is a serious boon for the Democrats. What better way to galvanize your voterbase than by saying that someone is violently trying to shut them down?
Of course, I'd like to think that the Democrats won't be so petty as to turn this into a vote-gaining tactic, but given recent events...

I hold the secrets of the machine.
x5 ... Yes, that is absolutely the reason. Why would Weisserman-Schulz be trying to bomb people, especially her (former?) colleagues? As some sort of false flag operation? A) Why would these bombs be active? (The CNN-Brennen one was apparently live) and B)the minute it was discovered she was an attempted serial bomber, it would just make Democrats over all look bad.

Well... The original Weathermen targeted either what they saw as seats of power (usually courthouses) or occasionally people like police chiefs. Those aren't the targets. Besides, they would likely hit Republicans as well. Although this would be in character, I think this is a case of not them this time.
A militant CPUSA member makes a little more sense, and would perhaps explain DWS. But that leaves some of the targets (like CNN) a bit...oddly placed. And again, the lack of Republicans is weird. Personally, this looks like a Right Wing attack. That explains most of Trump's particularly hated people (like Soros or Obama) and DWS as former head of the DNC. Really though, it's far too early to tell.

The awful things he says and does are burned into our cultural consciousness like a CRT display left on the same picture too long. -FighteerThe NYT article was probably the best I’ve seen at describing how the bombings were carried out.
The envelope’s return address bore the name of Debbie Wasserman Schultz, a Florida congresswoman and a former Democratic National Committee chairwoman, according to a person who saw a photograph of the envelope. The device sent to Mr. Soros was in a similar envelope also with a printed return address label with her name.
A fifth device apparently intended for the man who served as Mr. Obama’s attorney general, Eric H. Holder Jr., was misaddressed and because Ms. Wasserman Schultz’s name was on the return address, it was ultimately delivered to her district office in Florida, a law enforcement official said.
Then later, on Wednesday afternoon, another package addressed to another Democrat, Representative Maxine Waters of California, was intercepted at a Congressional mail facility, according to a Democratic official briefed on the investigation. In recent months, Ms. Waters has been a frequent target of Mr. Trump.
The bomb sent to CNN’s offices was delivered by courier, though it had half-a-dozen first class postage stamps on it, a law enforcement official said. Investigators believe the bomb sent to Mr. Soros’s home was dropped off in his mailbox.
It was not immediately clear how the other packages were delivered.
And more support that it was the same person.
That device was constructed from a length of pipe a little longer than six inches and wrapped in black tape with what appeared to be epoxy on the ends, according to a person who had seen a photograph of it. What could be a timer was attached to the side of the pipe and wires were visible at both ends. Like the bomb sent to Mr. Soros’s home, the envelope it arrived in was roughly 5-by-8 inches and had a printed white address label and half a dozen first-class postage stamps affixed to the outside.
On Wednesday afternoon, New York City’s police commissioner, James P. O’Neill, said the CNN bomb was “a live explosive device” and that it would be rendered harmless and sent to the F.B.I. to be analyzed. The package that contained the device also included white powder that the police were testing to determine if it is toxic, he said.
One of the envelopes sent out had several stamps on it, more postage than it needed to be delivered, according to a former law enforcement official briefed on the investigation. The extra postage led investigators to believe that the person who mailed it wanted to avoid going to a post office to buy the correct postage — a step to evade detection, the official said.

As for the FBI caring about this or not; regardless of the political stances of their ranking members, I doubt that the rank and file and their managers want crude explosives in the postal system. Especially when law enforcement and the judiciary have been historical subject to attacks like this.
Politics is the skilled use of blunt objects.I figure that DWS is most likely the return address because she is someone who would plausibly have sent everyone on the target list a package, that is it- If you send a politician a package without a return address, it gets circular filed instantly. Putting down DWS as the sender was not an attempt at getting at her, it was an attempt at getting through screening.
Trying to read more into than that is silly. Though it might be a good place to start the hunt. The bomber might have picked her because he lived near her office so the routing would match, for example.

Joe Biden: This country has to come together. This division, this hatred, this ugliness has to end.
How about you fuck right off Joe. I'll take my hatred of the GOP to the grave.
New Survey coming this weekend! You know the whole George Soros thing was originally Russian Anti-Semitic Propaganda, right?
. He supports Democratic groups in the former Soviet states in the Balkins, and has been the Kremlin’s boogie-man for years.

Like, same. I mean, Biden's usually...you know, I don't know how I feel about him. But the people who want the division to end usually intend to do it by sacrificing the civil rights of groups of people to appease the reactionaries. Which is not a price I'm willing to pay.

Also, Maxine Waters was a target for a bomb too.
The point is someone (or a group) is sending bombs to people, primarily Democrats and those who Trump absolutely loathes. This is absolutely terrifying, regardless of who is doing it, regardless of the reason.
