Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

Well, Collins will be saying something at 3pm about what her plan for the confirmation is, so look out for that, I guess.
I assume the 3pm time is EDT.

): You more or less echo things that I've said in the past. None of the "rebuttals" I've seen were convincing. Not even the "eye for an eye just leads to the whole world being blind" one, BTW.
They want a fascistic state where racism is the rule of the land? Then they should be given the same treatment that the original fascists faced in the previous century. No ifs, ands, or buts.
Fiat iustitia, et pereat mundus. Can Kavanaugh still be stopped if Manchin and Murkowski vote no?

Day 624: A mistake.
1/ The Senate voted 51-49 to advance Brett Kavanaugh's Supreme Court nomination. Republican Lisa Murkowski voted not to advance the nomination. She called the cloture vote "a mistake" and that Kavanaugh is "not the best man for the court at this time." Democrat Joe Manchin voted in favor. Confirmation is not assured as Sens. Susan Collins, Murkowski, and Manchin could vote differently during Saturday's final confirmation vote. Flake told reporters he would support Kavanaugh on the final vote, "unless something big changes." (New York Times / Washington Post / Politico / NBC News / Wall Street Journal)

Question is, is he or is he calling Mitch 'From the car'
"Terrible, traffic here, just *terrible* traffic *whispers* Save a dance for me, sweetie."
Its only over when the votes being counted. *sigh* But it doesn't spell good, unless Manchin is pulling a fast one to reassure Mc Connell. Or the rest of the party is taking the next 12 hours to explain to him what happens if he does vote yes.

"You can reply to this Message!"Well, screw Manchin too, along with Collins. At least Murkowski has a heart (or she realized that Alaska's the only Red State that appears to vehemently oppose Kavanaugh, seeing as both Governor and Lieutenant Governor are against him too).
Here's hoping for a quick and speedy investigation, followed by impeachment, of Kavanaugh come 2019-2021.

My thought was more is there a reason not to force the tiebreaker as a kind of "this is where things stand" statement sort of thing.
I forget, did Gorusch need the tiebreaker or did he get Democratic votes?
