Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

In Letter to Trump, House Democrats promise to investigate Brett Kavanaugh's perjury if confirmed
Good for them, if Kavanaugh is confirmed I hope they drag him and by extension the Republican Party through the mud.

Yeah, that is strange.
Granted, I wonder if this will rile up the republican for onces since it feel this have being the most direct confrontation between the parties since trumo have being president, this movement is the closet that can be interpretated as "dem make it political!"
One of the sickest things about Kavanaugh is that there's a chance he genuinely doesn't believe he's a rapist despite what he's done. He may very well be like those college guys in one study who were willing to admit to committing rape as long as the word "rape" wasn't actually used in the questioning.
Disgusted, but not surprised![]()

To the point there was a Twitter bot showing any changes made by IPs from Congressional buildings.
The account has been suspended due to inadvertently showing the doxxing.

I think one point people kinda seen to forget about rape is that is in a way a socia l crime as a legal one: a rapist is pretty much a form of "degenerate" which is why people stay away for it: is something that change you from the inside in a way, not surprise the right have blame gays, lesbians, transexual, etc of it.
IN this way rape is not just "she said, he said" but rather a reputation vs reputation clash which it kinda affect white male collage people because they refer to each other by it, since all the intents to shut down any investigation.
After all, a argument I have seen oven and over is the idea of the false alegation and also that ford can destroy brett reputation, is intersting phenomenon...so to speak.
"My Name is Bolt, Bolt Crank and I dont care if you believe or not"The issue is that rape, much like racism, has come to be associated with a certain stereotype. That only a monster could be a rapist or a racist.
A racist is someone who goes around in a white hood carrying a burning cross and looking for black people to hang.
A rapist is someone who skulks in alleyways with a knife looking to grab unsuspecting defenseless young women.
Anyone who doesn't fit those obviously villainous stereotypes? Well, they can't possibly be a rapist or a racist, right?
This is also why it's so damn hard to get people to acknowledge white privilege.

Disgusted, but not surprisedIt's starting to feel like we can't treat these dregs as anything other than the enemy. I'm not comfortable saying that, but I'm tired of giving them any benefit of the doubt just because they're fellow Americans only to have them get away with this kind of injustice over and over. There is no working together, save for something dire like disaster relief, and even then just look at PR.
The American Civil War never really ended, it just became a culture war that's been been fought for over a century. It has always been between the same two sides, and it's always been about who can convince the population what is right and wrong. Hell, I'd even say that this is a war that's been fought all over the globe for much longer, but I'm getting too philosophical.
"That only a monster could be a rapist or a racist."
Kinda but is diferent, with racism we though as crime born mostly in ignorance, that only misguided or fools engage in it to cover uo their defiency, rape on the other hand always carry that conontation os dirtiness and otherness.
You can said rape is a way men have being shaming other men, specially when it come to race and the conontation of "defiling" and "soaling" the pureness of women by their otherness.
"My Name is Bolt, Bolt Crank and I dont care if you believe or not"Orrin Hatch tells female protesters to "grow up."
A big part of why things are the way they are now is because one of the two major political parties, the Democratic Party, is no longer as much of a white man's club as the other party. The GOP and the Democratic Party used to be able to find common ground and some civility back when they had the mutual understanding that white straight men should always be at the top no matter what.
But the Democratic Party has been shifting away from that, and the GOP is not taking it well.
GOP: What happened to you, Democratic Party? You used to be cool.
Democratic Party: I grew up. Maybe you should too.
GOP: No! I don't wanna grow up!

The point is that the stereotype of the rapist or racist is such that it conveniently excludes a lot of less obvious racist and rapist actions.

Disgusted, but not surprisedHonestly, this line of thought leads to madness, the Republicans can and will try to spin anything we can do. So the options are either do nothing or do something and push through their pearl-clutching, I know what I prefer
![]()
Sure, I just saying this move is very capable of being spin that way.
M84: I will said that it also have with dems and rep growing more separe each day by ideology and values, the rep have always being suspect of dems growing socialism stand even when all said and done, is very very veyr mild socialism(and thank goodness for that).
And the thing about rape....you know? I will said this in the media and art thread since it better suit for it.
"My Name is Bolt, Bolt Crank and I dont care if you believe or not"At a rally Trump lied and claimed that the FBI found that Ford mad eup her story entirely, and encouraged the crowd to chant "lock her up" about Ford.

Wait, hold on, I feel like we're focusing on the wrong part of this story. 'Doxxing several Senators on Wikipedia during the hearing'? What were the senators doing on Wikipedia during the hearing?
