Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

Lots of things are legally WM Ds. The argument that it could have broken the nuclear weapons taboo is nonsensical in the extreme.
Yea, WMD is a worthless term legaly.
Any weapon that is designed or intended to cause death or serious bodily injury through the release, dissemination, or impact of toxic or poisonous chemicals, or their precursors
Any weapon involving a biological agent, toxin, or vector
Any weapon that is designed to release radiation or radioactivity at a level dangerous to human life
Any device or weapon designed or intended to cause death or serious bodily injury by causing a malfunction of or destruction of an aircraft or other vehicle that carries humans or of an aircraft or other vehicle whose malfunction or destruction may cause said aircraft or other vehicle to cause death or serious bodily injury to humans who may be within range of the vector in its course of travel or the travel of its debris
Throwing a desised cow over a castle wall, or hell cutting some one's breaklines are both WMDs
It does not mean what people think.... its not even what I thought, I knew a grenade was considered a WMD, but I didn't go in to this expecting to learn slashing some ones break lines was.

It involved poisoning someone with dangerous high amounts of radiation,it comes pretty damn close, but yeah the 'Nuclear weapons taboo' involves warheads, not the radiation it produces
Still it's line a Russia crossed, someone died and Russia acted innocent to escape punishment
have a listen and have a link to my discord serverThis is not news at all. Trump's grandfather first made his fortune from saloons and brothels. Fred Trump gave a young Donald a million dollars to make his fortune, and Donald promptly lost it all in bad investments, so daddy bailed him out. Then, when daddy died, Donald inherited the rest of his money, and lost much of it in more bad investments. So he came up with the idea of getting other people to put up the money for his investments, so he wouldn't lose any more of his own (daddy's) money.

This Space Intentionally Left Blank.I'm seeing reports here on Australian media that Trump has gone on record that if Kavanaugh lied to Congress then that's unacceptable. Nothing concrete but maybe he is working on an exit strategy in case someone catches Kavanaugh for perjury so Trump can wash his hands of him and lay the blame elsewhere.
That seems like its overthinking this.
Trump will throw Kavanaugh to the wolves because he has no personal loyalty to his subordinates but expects total loyalty in return. Its the Republicans who are worried about the optics of this.
Author of The Rules of Supervillainy, Cthulhu Armageddon, and United States of Monsters.I just saw the clip on Twitter and besides anger, Trump doing this kind of shit fills me with a deep, enduring dread.
Dread, because one of these days, someone in the next town where Trump's going to hold a rally who owns a gun is going to see this shit and go 'Fuck it, I'm done'. And whatever happens next isn't going to end well for anyone.

Angry gets shit done.By and large the people with both the serious anger issues required for that and the easy access to firearms are fans of Trump.
Plus the secret service know what they’re doing.

An equivalent of Sociopaths that isn't insulting to actual sociopaths? I don't mean that as Insult to Rocks, but you have to admit that a descriptor for a mental disorder should not be shorthand for ultimate Evil.

Thankfully the Secret Service is extremely good at what they do, thus while an attempted assassination would certainly be really bad a successful one is improbable enough to be not worth worrying about.

"Einstein would turn over in his grave. Not only does God play dice, the dice are loaded." -Chairman Sheng-Ji YangApparently the most noteworthy thing about the rally, other than Trump’s even more deranged and racist than usual ranting, which is barely news at this point, was that a bat somehow got into the building.
I’m not how they thought waving their feet around to try to shoo it away would be effective, but they luckily managed to get the little guy out safely, saving him the horrors of being stuck at a Trump Rally!

I used that term simply because it’s the one used to me when I had a politics professor make the point that the nuclear weapons taboo could be argued to have been broken by Russia with said attack.
Fair point on the terminology though, it was still legally a WMD attack though.
