Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

x3 That means either Kavanaugh won't get the seat (which I'm really hoping), or we have 2 Democrats who will go against not only their party, but the will of the people of the United States to put a Rapist and Molester on the Supreme Court.
Unfortunately, I'm hearing that Manchin is most likely a yes, because 'that's what the people of West Virginia want.'
Fingers crossed that that's true.

If Manchin and Donnelly vote yes in response to a yes from Murkowski and Collins, that's just barely forgivable because a no would be wasting political capital (though honestly, they ought to show some damn leadership and stand up for the idea that sexual harassment is, in fact, a bad thing).
If they vote yes when C&M vote no, then they need to be as kicked out of the Democratic Party as possible.

The Judiciary Vote is Friday, the full Senate Vote is Sunday.
There's no excuse anymore; the majority of Americans do not want Kavanaugh, even if the Majorities in Indiana and West Virginia do. Doug Jones of Alabama, who I'm sure most do want Kavanaugh in, is a hard no against him. There's no excuse for either of these 2 to vote yes, even if every single Republican does and he gets in anyways.
This is already pretty much Anita Hill 2.0 here. Kavanaugh haven't been voted in yet, but at this point, that is just a mere formality.
Not to mention, this stuff is unfortunately going to affect more than just USA and its people. Hopefully, it'll also galvanize people to take sexual crimes and other related stuff much more seriously because this is pretty much the proof that changes about it are still not enough.
I'm not as witty as I think I am. It's a scientifically-proven fact.Yeah, we're talking a Supreme Court seat. If they vote yes to keep their re-election bid going, then what the hell are they even using the seat for anyway?
Great, that means I'll likely be asleep for the vote (it's already near noon on Friday for me). At least then I can wake up and check to see how badly things have gone.
It's been fun.As someone from Indiana, who has met Donnelly a couple times, he is goddamn dead to me if he votes for Kavanaugh. I’ll vote for him this year because Braun is a nightmare, but I will NOT forgive or forget. Should Donnelly vote for Kavanaugh and somehow hold onto his seat, I swear on my honor I’ll see him primaried out in 2024, come hell or high water.
By contrast, I will tentatively commit my vote to Murkowski '22 if she says no on this. Probably Stockholm Syndrome.
You know, some people were saying that Mitch and others were overreacting when they said that this would ruin Kavanaugh's life, but I think that's dishonest. True, the only thing at risk at the moment is whether Brett will be a judge on the Supreme Court, but the end goal totally is to ruin his life by sending him to jail on charges of rape.
Granted, Kavanaugh is a fucking evil bastard and deserves to have his miserable life ruined by going to jail for the rest of his life. We shouldn't be saying "Don't be dramatic, we're not trying to ruin his life", we should be saying "Ruin Kavanaugh's life because he's a rapist piece of shit!" I want Kavanaugh's life to be ruined because of this, he doesn't deserve happiness.

In a weird turn of events, the Jesuits and the American Bar Association have turned on Kavanaugh and are demanding an FBI investigation.
The ABA is a nonpartisan lawyers’ guild, basically. They gave Kavanaugh the “yeah he’s totally qualified” thumbs up three weeks ago.
E.P.A to eliminate office that advises agency cheif on science
.
I really hate this administration, if a Democrat wins the 2020 election can they just give this bastard the boot?

The Kavanaugh's stuff completely exceeds my expectations. I already expect that his defense is going to be basically "Look how many female friends I have! How can I be a rapist!"
But I don't expect not one but two complete waste of oxygen to go "Look! I am the real rapist! Aha!" Reality don't just go out on a lunch. It also use meth, and is currently going on a meth-fueled rampage in a corner somewhere.
And Graham is currently catching up to Cruz in the one of the most depressing races ever. Yay! What a day!
