Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

There was.
And IIRC there was one who's son donated the maximum amount to his opponent's campaign.
Republicans really like to promote terrible people.

"Einstein would turn over in his grave. Not only does God play dice, the dice are loaded." -Chairman Sheng-Ji YangIf Rosenstein Is Fired, This Is Who Will Be in Charge of Robert Mueller
So... sounds like he wouldn't be friendly to Mueller's team. Ugh.
Rep. Ralph Norman jokes about Ruth Bader Ginsburg's being 'groped' by Abe Lincoln.
Senate GOP adviser for Kavanaugh's confirmation resigns amid sexual assault accusations.
I would say a Republican joking about sexual assault when their party is fast-tracking a judge accused of sexual assault is fairly offensive.
"Einstein would turn over in his grave. Not only does God play dice, the dice are loaded." -Chairman Sheng-Ji YangI'm assuming most people here, at least, have the capacity to take the accusations seriously and find Norman's statement absurd at the same time. Again, it's less "ha-ha" funny and more "what the hell are they on to be able to come up with this shit" funny.

Hopefully I'll feel confident to change my avatar off this scumbag soon. Apologies to any scumbags I insulted. The entire point of the absurdism is to emphasize how ridiculous it is when women accuse prominent (conservative) men of sexual assault.
It's a blatant attempt to reduce the seriousness of sexual assault accusations, by focusing on the absurd aspect of it you're reacting exactly as they want you to.
"Einstein would turn over in his grave. Not only does God play dice, the dice are loaded." -Chairman Sheng-Ji YangI view it differently, it's less absurdity overriding the accusations and more absurdity showing how pathetic/desperate their attempts at discrediting Ginsberg are. I can't speak for others here, but that's my take on it.
That and the whole issue with modern Republicans trying to claim Lincoln's legacy.

One Republican representative has managed to unite his siblings against him.
(Well, not all of them. 2 of the 9 have said nothing, but they're not leaping to his defence either.)
