Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

The theory is that she's sending a message to Kavanaugh: walk away or this goes public.
Better question, how long do you think their identity will remake a secret for?
Buzzfeed believe they know who the person is. They asked her for a comment, but she refused. They also believe her lawyer is the prominent #MeToo attorney, Debra Katz. That hasn't been confirmed either.
If my post doesn't mention a giant flying sperm whale with oversized teeth and lionfish fins for flippers, it just isn't worth reading.Brief change of topic: Is there a position in the US federal government's executive branch that could be described as "chief administrative officer" as a distinct office from that of the POTUS being the "chief executive officer"?

Fiat iustitia, et pereat mundus.Isn't the executive branch only the president?
Any way,question.... it seems that a large chunk of America suports democratic policy... more then that vote democrat, and some of whom even voted Trump (this isn't my question, that one is obviously x-isim)
Rather,if democrate policy aligns with so many, why is bothsiderisim so strong?
People don’t vote based on policy, they vote based on emotions, identity, habit and tribalism.
Also bothsidism is so strong because it’s profitable for the media to generate it because it generates views. CNN would do a six hour special on if the sky is realy blue if they thought they could generate viewership from it.
“And the Bunny nails it!” ~ Gabrael “If the UN can get through a day without everyone strangling everyone else so can we.” ~ CyranThe chief of staff seems more appropriate, as they run the White House day to day and the White House runs the week to week functions of the rest of the executive branch.

“And the Bunny nails it!” ~ Gabrael “If the UN can get through a day without everyone strangling everyone else so can we.” ~ CyranThe entire Civil Service is technically part of the executive branch I believe, albeit in a non-elected way. The decentralized and semi-independent nature of many of these agencies makes things a bit complicated, but they do get their authority through the executive.

The federal civil service is just all appointed positions in every branch of government, anything unelected basically. It’s not strictly related to the executive branch.
The closest equivalent to a CAO in the federal government would probably be the head of a federal agency.

They should have sent a poet.
Great, yet another useless and wrong thing I learned in my American Government class last year.
This was the teacher that liked to talk about how terrible our National Debt is, without actually seeming to understand anything about how it actually works.

The executive branch has most of the large agencies, but just to use an example an appointed civilian employee working for the GAO or CBO, both of which are federal agencies under the legislative branch, would be a civil service member. OPM, which manages the civil service, is an independent agency.

Bothsiderism is so strong because people are generally ignorant and want to justify their apathy, so instead of actually looking at the policies of the parties they just declare that both are awful and then do nothing.
And of course many of the people who go "bothsides" are radicals of one type or another who dislike both parties because of their political differences, like libertarians and hard environmentalists.

It's unfair to the Democrats but many people feel they are tepid in their progress on many issues.

The settlement, detailed in court documents late on Wednesday, represented a victory for rights groups that challenged Trump's contentious family separation policy that was aimed at deterring illegal immigration.
If approved by U.S. District Judge Dana Sabraw in San Diego, immigrant parents and their children will get a second chance to apply for asylum even if U.S. authorities previously rejected their claims that they faced a "credible fear of persecution or torture" if sent back to their home countries.
More than 1,000 people will be eligible to apply again for asylum under the settlement, according to Muslim Advocates, one of the rights groups that sued the administration.
The family separations and the detention of thousands of children, mostly from Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador, prompted widespread condemnation of Trump's policy. About 2,500 children and parents were separated before Trump abandoned the policy in June. Days later, a federal judge ordered the families reunited, a process that is still incomplete.

If either Graham or Cotton end up being his replacement...fuck.
This is what years of neglecting gas lines can do.
So this is pretty big news, it's especially good considering that it's coming out before the midterms. Hopefully this is the first step to Trump's downfall and the destruction of the Republican Party. Can't wait to see what happens

"Einstein would turn over in his grave. Not only does God play dice, the dice are loaded." -Chairman Sheng-Ji YangNew York Primaries will be having results in soon. To recap: For governor, Democratic candidates were incumbent Andrew Cuomo and challenger Cynthia Nixon. Lieutenant Governor had incumbent Cathy Hochul vs challenger Jumaane Williams.
For attorney general, there were four(!) candidates: Sean Patrick Maloney, Letitia James, Zephyr Teachout, and Leecia Eve.
