Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

As it turns out she has, she has called for its removal
.
And in local news, a lot of areas around me are issuing mandatory evacuations.
They're expecting this one to be as bad as Fran was back in the day.
I haven't received anything though so I'm gonna just wait it out.
Oh really when?
Even if you're away from the ocean, it's very dangerous to be in a state a hurricane is passing so close to, especially if other areas nearby are already being evacuated. I would evacuate out of precaution, but it is your choice of course.

Day 600: Reckless escalation.
1/ Trump began the 17th anniversary of the Sept. 11. 2001 terror attacks by tweeting a defense of himself in the Russia investigation while also attacking the FBI. In a string of tweets, appearing to quote from a segment on Fox News, Trump blamed FBI agents Peter Strzok and Lisa Page for employing a "media leak strategy" to undermine his administration. He then blamed the FBI and Justice Department for doing "NOTHING" about it. Almost two hours later, Trump tweeted: "17 years since September 11th!" (NBC News / Washington Post / CNN)

"40 Wall Street actually was the second-tallest building in downtown Manhattan, and it was actually, before the World Trade Center, was the tallest," Trump said during a telephone interview on the afternoon of Sept. 11 with local New Jersey television station WWOR. "And then, when they built the World Trade Center, it became known as the second-tallest. And now it’s the tallest." (Washington Post / Huff Post)

The Trump administration is expected to close the Palestine Liberation Organization's office in Washington. Senior Palestinian officials strongly condemned the decision and described it as a "reckless escalation." (Wall Street Journal)
As someone who had to evacuate during Hurricane Rita in 2005, if your home is sturdy enough or you have a nearby evacuation shelter or far enough away from the ocean, your best bet is to stay put.
You do not want to be in a situation where a one hour drive becomes twenty-four and become stuck in you vehicle during the hurricane, just because everyone else is doing so as well.
But as a heads up, add high ground to that list of adequate shelter, as Florence is expected to slow down and dump a crap ton of rain on the Carolinas and Virginia.

"We're all paper, we're all scissors, we're all fightin' with our mirrors, scared we'll never find somebody to love."![]()
Pretty much my thought.
I'm not in any real flood danger and I'm pretty good for winds.
Unless I lose a tree and it physically falls on my house I think I'll be fine.
And worse comes to worse and I gotta ditch my house I'm literally within walking distance of several nice sturdy designated shelters.

Oh really when? This has to be one the touting the economy and No Collusion!” Tweets, because it somehow manages to do both at once.
And here’s the sum of his 9/11 tweets today (other than the one retweet, and a video clip of a speech)
- Rudy Giuliani did a GREAT job as Mayor of NYC during the period of September 11th. His leadership, bravery and skill must never be forgotten. Rudy is a TRUE WARRIOR!
- Departing Washington, D.C. to attend a Flight 93 September 11th Memorial Service in Shanksville, Pennsylvania with Melania. #Never Forget
- 17 years since September 11th!
I’m pretty sure that the second one wasn’t even written by him.
Instead he was live tweeting Fox, and brietbart.
