Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

Even he knows he’s guilty.
....The Democrats, none of whom voted for Jeff Sessions, must love him now. Same thing with Lyin’ James Comey. The Dems all hated him, wanted him out, thought he was disgusting - UNTIL I FIRED HIM! Immediately he became a wonderful man, a saint like figure in fact. Really sick!
I see that John Kerry, the father of the now terminated Iran deal, is thinking of running for President. I should only be so lucky - although the field that is currently assembling looks really good - FOR ME!
According to the Failing New York Times, the FBI started a major effort to flip Putin loyalists in 2014-2016. “It wasn’t about Trump, he wasn’t even close to a candidate yet.” Rigged Witch Hunt!
And my favorite

The Failing New York Times, the Rigged Witch Hunt... Trump really likes his Homeric epithets.
Edit: Why was that YKTTW
nuked, by the way?

Discarded for lack of interest, looks like. Although I have to say that, as a stock phrase style trope, it's unlikely to gather good examples.
In addition to standard protests about the nominee, it came to light (via leaks from Woodward's upcoming book) that Trump's advisors, among other shit, have literally stolen/hid E Os and other documents so Trump can't sign them. Democratic Senators tasted blood in the water, and asked to delay the hearing so they could examine the new claims.
On that subject, really great article on Bob Woodward's above mentioned book on the Trump White, using interviews from senior aides that demonstrate just how fucking incompetent Trump is. A bit long but worth a read.

Politics is the skilled use of blunt objects.
x2 Shouting from the get-go from both sides, protestors being kicked out, controversy surrounding the fact that 40,000 pages on Kavanaugh are being kept secret.
People who have been covering politics for a long time say they've never seen any SC hearing like this.

538 is currently rating Democrats' chances of taking the House at almost exactly 80%, the highest its been since they begun tracking.

Good signs, looks like the indictments, among other things, are slowly eroding at the GOP's numbers. That said, the trend could always self correct over time, so don't get too over confident.

The hearings. Cruz attacked the Democrats for "obstructing" Trump after years of doing that to Obama.
He also claimed that confirming Kavanaugh is "what the American people wanted". He said how the Supreme Court vacancy was major factor in the 2016 election and that both Clinton and Trump made clear what kind of nominees they'd pick. He said that the people "made their decision" in the 2016 election and that this is what they chose. Except the majority of America voted for Hillary. Trump's only here because of the Electoral College, rendering Cruz's argument sham and hollow.
I could go on but then I'd just be ranting.

Bleah.
I don't think a lack of resistance to Trump would result in us all being dead, just a closed society with a Putin-esque defacto autocrat ruling a managed democracy.
Which is obviously really bad on it's own.

"Einstein would turn over in his grave. Not only does God play dice, the dice are loaded." -Chairman Sheng-Ji Yang

I'm sure they get how incriminating it looks. But they also know Trump is guilty as hell, so they have no other choice.
