There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations

before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

McCainwas very clear he hated Trump, hated his politics (or the extremism of them), and hated Trump. In that order. He was never unclear about that and had nothing to lose at the last portion of his career/life.
Even if he was a Neocon, he at least had the dignity to think Trump made Republicans look stupid and thought that was a bad thing.

McCain’s last letter to the nation also had a pretty explicit rebuke of the alt-Reich and the worst elements of the deplorables, so that’s another hint that he wouldn’t have minded people going after Trump and company.

Yeah, I saw that Joe Liebermann spoke at Mc Cain's funeral and it really seemed like they were the best of friends. Mavericks stick together I guess. But ultimately, Mc Cain wanted someone to energize women and tycoons and that was a big mistake.
Still, I'll reiterate my belief he is absolutely not to blame for what the republican party turned into afterwards. That process started in 1992, with the GOP acting like they needed to go to war with the democrats, and the Tea Party would've been created regardless of Palin.
Life is unfair...Trump's been a bit obsessed with Canada today. All day.
....Remember, NAFTA was one of the WORST Trade Deals ever made. The U.S. lost thousands of businesses and millions of jobs. We were far better off before NAFTA - should never have been signed. Even the Vat Tax was not accounted for. We make new deal or go back to pre-NAFTA!

Many people felt their attendance was disrespectful, as Mc Cain had instructed that the president was not to be invited.
Children should not be blamed for the things their parents do and bad relationships they cultivate. You could say Ivanka and Jared are close to Trump due to their jobs at the White House, but still, only the president himself was univinted.
Manafort associate paid Trump inauguration $50,000 in Ukrainian cash
Sam Patten used the money to buy tickets for the oligarch and a Russian associate to Trump’s inauguration in January 2017, according to a plea agreement made public on Friday. The inauguration fund was not allowed to accept money from foreigners.
The disclosure came as Patten pleaded guilty to illegally lobbying in the US for pro-Russia politicians from Ukraine. As part of his plea deal, he agreed to cooperate with Robert Mueller, the special counsel investigating links between Donald Trump’s campaign team and Russian interference in the 2016 election.
Patten, 47, admitted causing the Ukrainian funds to be paid to the inauguration committee, and to lying to a Senate committee investigating Russian interference in an attempt to cover this up. He was not charged for these actions.
He pleaded guilty to one count of working as an unregistered agent for the oligarch’s Ukrainian political party, Opposition Bloc, which also employed Manafort, the former chairman of Trump’s 2016 campaign. Patten was released on bail by judge Amy Berman Jackson following a hearing in Washington.
The charge was brought by the US attorney’s office in the capital, which took over the case following a referral from Mueller’s office. The court filings indicated that Patten had been in discussions with Mueller’s office for at least three months.
A spokesman for the US attorney’s office said the charge against Patten was a felony punishable by a maximum of five years in prison and also carried potential fines. Stuart Sears, an attorney for Patten, declined to comment.
If you've read anything about McCain's behind the scenes, he not only regretted selecting Palin but (not hyperbole) hated her after just a few meetings.
He was basically recommended her without personally meeting her or vetting her.
Later, he'd expressed he probably could have been elected had he not taken her, which is...bluntly, not true in the slightest.

Author of The Rules of Supervillainy, Cthulhu Armageddon, and United States of Monsters.I wonder if he's ever looked up NAFTA and what it does. I did a while ago and while it appears to be an all around good deal according to the wikipedia article, it definitely pointed out at the time that the US came out of it better than either Canada or Mexico.
He probably hasn't. But then my mind goes to wondering if this is just his racist ranting to his base or if he's had some deal or other that's been affected by NAFTA. I can't recall that he's had a lot of dealings in Mexico or Canada. It mostly seems to be overseas stuff he's involved in.

It was an ambiguous statement about the scope of it.
