Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

No more Turning the Fricken Frogs Gay for us, it seems.
"World's Smallest Violin plays in background."
Watch SymphogearAlex Jones got booted off Facebook and Apple too.
Hallelujah.

Found a Youtube Channel with political stances you want to share? Hop on over to this page and add them.I think it makes a little more sense when you keep in mind that he's lived in New York, I wouldn't be surprised if socially he felt obligated to be a member of the Democratic Party. Which after-all due to our weak party structure doesn't really mean much.
(there's only really a litmus test for people trying to get elected)

"Einstein would turn over in his grave. Not only does God play dice, the dice are loaded." -Chairman Sheng-Ji YangIt’s already far too late for the blame Gates strategy to work; Manafort’s lawyers went into the trial saying “Look, Manafort was a busy man running all over world, he didn’t have the time or inclination to micromanage every cent he made, so he entrusted Gates to watch out for it all, so Manafort is as much a victim as anything.”
Trouble is, all of Manafort’s employees have been happy to testify about how Manafort is a Control Freak that would get involved in every aspect of the business and their jobs, and the idea that a guy would micromanage his business to the nth degree and then be all hands off with his actual money made from the business isn’t going to pass the smell test.
Basically, from what I hear, the prosecution has been textbook in how they’ve gone about proving their case and tearing apart the defense. Basically, at least in a reasonable world, Manafort is down to hoping that someone on the jury is a Trump fanatic who will engage in a bit of jury nullification, that the financial details are so boring it puts the jury to sleep and they wake up voting to acquit, or that Trump does something dramatic to try to rescue/pardon Manafort in the end.
Of course, our world is not looking especially sane or just at the moment, so we’ll have to see how it all turns out.

I’m glad, but I really wish Youtube, Facebook, etc, had taken action earlier. Several of the Sandy Hook families have been getting harassed and threatened for years. One of the families has moved seven times
trying to get away from Jones’ fans and keep their remaining children safe.

Violent Proto-Fascists Came To Portland. The Police Went After The Anti-Fascists.
From Huff Post, but still, yet another depressing look at how skewed the police phrase of "protect and serve" is toward the side that will support their bigotry and brutality.
Though I'm not sure why the alt-righters are being called "proto-fascists."

"Somehow the hated have to walk a tightrope, while those who hate do not."The bias doesn't matter. It's what's in the content that matters, which that is the police seemed to do more to protect fascists than the people opposing it.

"The devil's got all the good gear. What's God got? The Inspiral Carpets and nuns. Fuck that." - Liam GallagherHuff Po isn’t great, but it’s relatively reliable for factual content. Comparing them to Young Turks is unwarranted (and frankly an insult to Huff Po
).
I’ve been following reports about the tensions and various protests in Portland over the last couple years; the Huff Po report is consistent with what I’ve seen regarding local police response. Which... that’s real depressing.
This may help as an alternate source
The Latest: ACLU blasts Portland police handling of protest
Seems to be a general timeline of what's happened.
Actualy, from what I saw from independent reporters the Huff Po result IS skewed.
Live reporting indicates that the police diarmed and arrested the facists first, and then went after the anti facists that possesd switch blades to be greeted with chants if fuck the police.
Regardless of the fact that they had just finished taking the nazis clubs and even flag poles away just minutes earlier, and refused to obey police orders of a do not cross line, while wearing full body armor and carrying barrel sheilds, (none were arested for it and they were allowed to keep there sheilds) so they were just doing what they were supposed too.
There is also at least 4 of the nazis sleeping I'm a jail cell tonight, which is way too few but due to the first amendment they sadly can't be arrested just for being a nazi.

It's honestly kind of bizarre that Trump spent more than two decades of his life as a registered Democrat, including in the modern day where political party affiliation actually is a litmus test.
"For all those whose cares have been our concern, the work goes on, the cause endures, the hope still lives, and the dream shall never die."
