Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

A lot of people would accept them. There's a power element behind it. The real question is, would he give one to Trump?
My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.On one hand there's nothing wrong with the willingness itself but I can't fathom as to why he would mention such a thing... like was he preempting the fellatio jokes by saying that he totally would do it?
"Einstein would turn over in his grave. Not only does God play dice, the dice are loaded." -Chairman Sheng-Ji YangSexual dominance has been an element of male power dynamics since forever. It's not homoeroticism per se, although that aspect has also been present. The weird thing is that the receiver is usually portrayed as dominant. Does Arpaio want Trump to submit to him, or vice versa?

"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"
Fair enough, but even with sexual dominance in mind it just seems bizarre to admit to such a thing.
<shrugs> Still who knows maybe my mindset just isn't focused enough on sexual dominance to understand.

"Einstein would turn over in his grave. Not only does God play dice, the dice are loaded." -Chairman Sheng-Ji YangProbably yeah, on one hand there is a rich history of viewing only men "taking it" as being inferior (due to the feminine role they were partaking in) but considering the modern Right's antipathy to homosexuality I doubt this would help him electorally.

"Einstein would turn over in his grave. Not only does God play dice, the dice are loaded." -Chairman Sheng-Ji YangSome more details on the "interview"
“I have 43 guns,” Baron Cohen told his guest. “I’ve been collecting them for the upcoming race war.” Arpaio didn’t blink.
Later, Baron Cohen asked Arpaio what Donald Trump is like. “Great man,” Arpaio said. “He has a lot of money, but he doesn’t act that he’s rich.” Asked if Trump has had a “golden shower,” a confused Arpaio replied, “Wouldn’t surprise me.” He predicted that Trump would like the host “because you think like he thinks.”
From there, Baron Cohen started asking Arpaio about his first “hand job,” adding, “If Donald Trump calls you up after this and says, ‘Sheriff Joe, I want to offer you an amazing blow job,’ would you say yes?”
“I may have to say yes,” he replied calmly.
Last month, Arpaio was among the many prominent public figures who admitted they had been tricked by Baron Cohen, claiming that he became uncomfortable in the interview when the comedian started using words like “hand job” and “golden shower.” But it was hard to tell that from the segment that aired.

Fiat iustitia, et pereat mundus. It's almost like a political equivalent of Reality Show Genre Blindness
They were. The real question is whether or not, now that it's aired, enough people will still fall for it for a season 2.
I think they will, to be honest. Republicans pride themselves on the idea of being Too Dumb to Fool. Those are always the easiest marks.

No, they're really stupid. Really, really stupid. Every time we brush against the possibility that they know better and are just ignoring what's before them, they reaffirm the depths of their stupidity.

x2 He started amassing it in 2010 with his 'Obama was a Kenyan Immigrant' BS that really rang to the 'Democrats are the greatest villain' Teapublicans. He had enough power that his endorsement of Mitt Romney in 2012 actually meant something (though, not enough to give him the Presidency). It definitely exploded when he threw his hat into the ring, though.

Up until about 2008, his political activity was pretty standard for a rich guy; in that he networked with and donated to members of both parties. Then he realized that there was a path to success in the GOP, which was already rapidly becoming a vehicle for values he was always sympathetic to.
Politics is the skilled use of blunt objects.

Joe Arpaio says he would accept a blow job from Donald Trump.
Well, no wonder Donald Trump decided to pardon him.......
