Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

Really? So are you just gonna ignore every legitimate grievance Luther had with the Catholic Church?
Regardless, this conversation probably doesn't fit here, but it's ridiculous that we're still seeing this line of thought about Luther's intentions in this day and age.
"Somehow the hated have to walk a tightrope, while those who hate do not."Regardless, this conversation probably doesn't fit here, but it's ridiculous that we're still seeing this line of thought about Luther's intentions in this day and age.
I think that whole shpeal about Luther's "unwanted, radical opinions" was meant to be sarcasm. She's calling out the way people treated Luther's grievances then as a contrast against how we see him today.

Pretty sure that's the joke, they're using standard right-wing language and applying it to Luthor here.
Trump is now echoing Rudy's early assessment that collusion isn't a crime (but only the Democrats do it anyway).
Now, if he didn't commit it, why would he be ranting about that?

I think it's less cycling and more the natural progression of things, "no collusion" only remained viable for so long so as more information is revealed they've adjusted their message to compensate.
It's both infuriating and hilarious.

Is he serious? I am honestly confused if that is supposed to be a spoof or a very awkward attempt at butt kissing...
Satire or not hinges on if that is De Santis. Looks like him, but it is hard to tell. Fox seems to think it is legit. For strange values of "legit."

For every complex problem there is an answer that is clear, simple, and wrong. — H.L. MenckenDoing it properly:
It's an Ad for Ron Desantis who's running as Governor for Florida, where is wife explains he's not just pro-Trump, he's so much more. Cue showing his little daughter how to read with a MAGA ad, his baby in a MAGA outfit and the like.
Basically, Ron Desantis is not just Pro-Trump, he's Plus Ultra Trump.
It's oh so very Narm.
Sadly, I think its serious.

"You can reply to this Message!"I am not sure what is worse...him building a wall with his kids or him reading Trump's book as a bedside story, explaining that "you're fired" is his favourite part.
I mean..I just...I honestly first thought that it was a spoof, or the clever attempt of a republican candidate to distance himself from Trump in a way that actual Trump supporters don't notice that they are made fun of. But if this is serious...heaven help!!! And someone call child protection!
So here's one I'm getting conflicting reports over. Apparently the Koch brothers funded a study into the Medicare-for-all idea, and while the study itself states that it'd increase Federal healthcare spending by $32.6 trillion between 2022 and 2031
, it reportedly also says that it would decrease the overall spending by $2 trillion (though I haven't seen a time period attached to that figure).

The kind of idea that if you're succeeding it's because God favors you, and if you're failing it's because God is punishing you, actually goes all the way back to 2nd Temple Judaism; it's part of the reason why Jesus helping the poor, disabled and lepers was so controversial with the various Judaic groups at the time, because Jesus was actively helping those that God was punishing for their sins.
