The General US Politics Thread

Go To

Nov 2023 Mod notice:

There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.

If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines before posting here.

Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.

If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules when posting here.

In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

Agreed. It's not our place, and it's useless to us. His actions speak for themselves - we have no need of a diagnosis to go with it.

it quickly starts gaining airs of "he's dangerous /because/ of his mental issues" which is stigmatizing for people who have mental illness.

is also the fact he is live in a spoiled and pamper environment is whole life which clearly worse whatever the hell is wrong with him, if he have a mental issue them he pretty much born worst place for him.

what I think is that at least a mental check should be done to presidents and at least make those traditions like relasing your heath check into a law to stop the whole "belive me!" populist to ever gain note again.

[up] Yes, it's become clear that a lot of the traditions most of the previous Presidents followed really, really ought to be codified into actual laws. Releasing tax returns, setting up blind trusts, etc.

Removal of vaccine exemptions lead to higher vaccination rates, at least in Cali. Also, apparently California is the third state with no non-medical exemptions for vaccination, the previous two being - wait for it: West Virginia and Mississippi.

Trump is literally trying to Kill the Poor and hope they blame the Democrats for it: http://nymag.com/daily/intelligencer/2017/04/trump-i-may-sabotage-obamacare-until-democrats-repeal-it.html. Guess which demographic most of Trump's voters are comprised of...
Middle class white people. Poor whites weren't nearly as uniformly pro-Trump as middle class folks. The middle class is far more "anxious" than the lower classes and has long been a Republican stronghold because they're terrified of foreigners, minorities, and taxation.

So instead, the motive for killing the poor is to punish an economic class that didn't vote for Cinnamon Hitler.

[up] It's weird that they aren't more scared of the rich like Trump who are usually the ones actually screwing them.

Maybe it's because they want to be one of the rich someday.

[up] Well when you're poor, you don't have the same access to information that other people do. Some don't even have internet or watch TV. You also won't be voting as much depending on the state you're in because it costs too much or you don't have time in your day to go vote because you and your family need every dollar to make it.

[up] That comment wasn't about the poor. It was about the white middle class. People who do have access to television and internet...such as FOX News and Breitbart. And they have time to vote...and mostly voted Republican.

As Balmung pointed out, actually poor white people in the USA weren't quite as enthusiastic about Trump.

When people vote, they essentially think "Which person is going to screw me over less?" and this election, they were wrong no matter who they voted for.

I think a lot of working lower middle class people supported him. The people who while doing ok, have not had a wage increase for years dispite hard work. They feel like they were robbed of the American Dream that was pounded into there heads when they were young. The hard working father, two kids, a nice house, etc.

I can probably speak for more than a few people here when I say you'll never convince me that anything Clinton is likely to have done, even at her worst, would have compared to the last eighty days of idiocy we've had with Trump.

So, Trump had stocks in those missiles he fired?

And the stock price went up afterwards?

We're on the cusp of entering the War Economy of Metal Gear, people.

I wouldn't overplay that too much, the issue is that Trump has investments at all while he is president. His actions impact every company in the world, one way or the other.

And Raytheon is pretty cool to an aerospace nerd like me so.....>.>

I doubt it was intentional. He probably had no idea who made the missiles. He doesn't seem like the type of person to ask.

One thing I should note: Many of my posts are me half joking about stuff.

But I am honestly amazed that the current US president makes Senator Steven Armstrong almost look like a reasonable alternative.

Almost.

I am honestly saddened to hear about the judge's death. It's worrisome as well; very suspicious.

I mean, it could be foul play. But it could just as easily be an accident or suicide. Best to wait for the investigation.

[up][up]Armstrong is a typical MG villain who pretends to be Trump. And at least he fought his own battles....

mean I get that but with Trump it's just so obvious he's got huge mental issues.

And yet the guy who wrote the DSM-V disqualified him from being a narcissist. But then, who cares about how psychology diagnostics work when we can justify calling people we don't like mentally ill.

I'll be first in line to spit on 45's grave, that doesn't mean I'll call him mentally ill.
