Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

No sir, no way they can spin this into an anti-Semitic attack.
I have disagreed with her a lot, but comparing her to republicans and propagandists of dictatorships is really low. - An idiot![]()

The earlier one can go on the Global Terrorism

Look with century eyes... With our backs to the arch And the wreck of our kind We will stare straight ahead For the rest of our lives"He talks like we do!"
"Yes, well, that's because both you and he are mind-bogglingly ignorant."
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!""I can grab a beer with that guy," turns rapidly into, "Hold my beer, I'm drivin' this country!"
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"I saw an argument that whenever people say that conservatives vote against their own best interests, it's always their own economic best interests they vote against. What they're voting for is their own cultural best interests, as they see them. Like Christian supremacy for instance.
Not that it helps that much. If anything, it just slows down the inevitable, while increasing the chances that their victories may be Pyrrhic in the long term. Still, they're voting because economics really isn't the most important thing to them.
But maybe it will be when they're starving.

They say they're worried about the economy, and maybe they even think that's true. It's just that they think the economy is bad because of those other people stealing from them. And by other people they mean "immigrants, especially the brown ones."

Disgusted, but not surprisedEric Trump: Ivanka influenced Syria strike decision
. Worth noting that apparently the evil dog has the nickname "Abu Ivanka" over there.
@Septimus: Well, you've got to please someone with your programs. As Libertarian candidate Harry Browne once said, eliminating a single government program won't usually get any support because individuals don't pay the cost for it, but a particular group will defend the special benefits that it gives them to the death. (He was building an argument for logrolling massive erasure of the federal government with elimination of the income tax, which is more of the usual Libertarian nonsense, but he was right about the problem with eliminating special interest perks and subsidies like housing regulations.)

Awful that stuff like this keeps happening, even in places like California.
