Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

Isn't anyone who thought that Rand's ideas were worth something an edgelord by default?
I'll leave it at that because wiser words are seldom spoken. ![]()

Nah, those two are too long and wordy.

While it's undeniably a distraction, I'm not too worried about that. This administration has proven that it's too incompetent for this kind of stuff. I'm more worried on the possibility that this administration botch this up and end up triggering something like WW3. People said that it's too pessimistic, but this administration has never fail to prove its unyielding determination to make me more pessimistic with each passing day.
Those missiles are counted as defense budget. The Flint's water supply is counted as poor man's budget. It's different. Haven't you already read the budget plan of our Lord and Savior?

You should know that even in the most tense moments, no government would have the gall to star WW3.
"No one want to do it" doesn't mean that it won't happen accidentally and, so far, Trump administration haven't offer me a single proof that it has the competence to not botch this up and accidentally start an international man-made disaster.
I personally believe that a lot of man-made disasters begin with three sentences: "Don't worry. Nothing wrong is going to happen. Believe me."

Putin is really pissed off at Trump for that, so it is quite possible that Putin in order to fix the mess he helped create could release all the blackmail he has on Trump.
So there is a chance that Putin released the information that can be used to impeach Trump, the US gets a much less stupid president and everyone can stay a little more calm for the next 3 years.
Taxation without representation is another one, but I'd guess that also being against regulatory agencies like the FDA is another Libertarian hype. But hey lets eat tainted meat that is being sold as premium meat and have our kids drink heroin as cough syrup. Maybe those unregulated companies will stop doing shady practices and cutting corners if we vote with our wallets. Right?

Inter arma enim silent legesI'm just saying, it's not an example I would use.
Also, I understand that there have been accusations of anti-Semitism in regards to BDS supporters?
Oh God! Natural light!![]()

That is, seriously, not a good example. Even BDS is still on the grey area and I'm being charitable and taking them on good faith here. Punishing all Israelis for the actions of a few of their ultra-nationalist nutjobs is just not right. I'm pretty sure that you agree that not all Americans deserve to be punished for the actions of Trump and the GOP.

Only an experienced editor who has a name possesses the ability to truly understand my work - What 90% of writers I'm in charge of said."Eeeeeh, I've heard reports of him slapping Donnie Jr. in college, Donald Jr. has admitted to him verbally abusing him when he was a kid and I've heard there's a recording of him calling one of his sons "a retard" while he was on the Apprentice. Some people say it was directed towards Barron. That's not to mention that he screwed his dead older brother's children out of their inheritance (they sued him) as well as making some sexually vulgar comments on the wife of one of his sons. I think he just loves Ivanka and Jared specifically."
...OK.
Man, every time I hear about Trump having mitigating factors, it gets subverted harder than an anime made by a guy who hates anime.
I agree no one wants all out war. No one would win that. But the fear is there. The possibility.
Except Kim Jong Un. He might want war. But he's crazy and desperate.
Also, in case anyone thinks I'm part of the "Give Trump a chance" crowd: I'm not.
The first time I heard that, I was tentatively hopeful. Then I heard what he was doing to the EPA. I got my flamethrower. Then I heard about all the other choices he was making for his Cabinet. I set my sentiments ablaze.
Trump has been just as awful as he promised he would be, which disappoints and angers me greatly.
But, unlike Trump, I will not be close minded. If he does something good, I will praise him. If he makes amends, I will forgive him.
He won't. But he can, so, unlike Trump, I am must keep my heart open. There are things about Obama I disliked, but I'm glad he had the Chaos Emeralds.
Trump is a terrible prez. I do not recognise him as legitimate. But I have to keep an open mind, otherwise I poison my judgement.
Not all, just the majority. Most groups and people behind BDS are
antisemites
, at this point is like trying to look out for men who are genuinely looking to improve men's rights in the MRA movement.
Pretty sure his argument is more in line with the "You say you don't want your tax dollars going toward abortion? Well I don't want mine going towards warfare, but here we are" type of thing.
And that makes me think of an old Daily Show bit where Jon tries bringing up a recent offensive into Palestine by Israel, only to have his coworkers jump in to lambaste him for it twice... he then tries saying that there's legitimate criticism about the action to get it again from the same coworkers for hating Israel, finishing with Jordan Klepper calling him a self-hating Jew. "...fuck it, lets go to something easier."

"Why would I inflict myself on somebody else?"

Attacking Syrian military targets: IOKIYAR

I have disagreed with her a lot, but comparing her to republicans and propagandists of dictatorships is really low. - An idiot
