Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

Re Yellowstone: Pretty sure Geology Does Not Work That Way, but drilling or fracking there would still be nasty for a whole bunch of oher reasons.

Speaking of Town Halls, there's another Congressional recess April Tenth to April 21. See if your MOC is hosting one, and see if you can go.
and here's a link to indivisible if anyone wants to find their local group before.

Also consider donating to the Go Fund Me to get a UN lawyer, if you can. It's for a good cause. :)

And he briefly turned the GOP into a third party for one election.
That said, splinter campaigns will never work today; no one in the GOP commands that kind of respect and the party machine is too regimented.
"For all those whose cares have been our concern, the work goes on, the cause endures, the hope still lives, and the dream shall never die."Senator Joe Donnally (D-IN) supports Gorsuch, but asks that the filibuster holds.
Senator Jon Tester (D-MT) will not be voting for Grosuch.

"We're all paper, we're all scissors, we're all fightin' with our mirrors, scared we'll never find somebody to love."The only really successful modern third party I can think of, is the "Vermont Progressive Party," which was founded by a bunch of Sanders supporters, back when he was still mayor of Burlington. They have several members serving in the Vermont state congress, as well as several local offices.

Re: means of removing the President from office. From what I've been reading there is a possible precedent in the courts where an election can be declared invalid, and then either a new one held or the opponent installed in place of the corrupt "winner." It involved a state senatorial election case in Pennsylvania, but the justice who wrote the opinion mentioned that the logic used to decide the case applied to all elections, including and especially Presidential ones. There was another case that would be of use too, but I forget what it was. Of course for any of this to apply, someone would have to challenge the election and the case end up before the Supreme Court...I think the only one who has standing is Hillary and she has chosen not to contest the election (mostly because she'd gotten after Trump for saying he would contest it if he lost). So there's that. But it is still possible, which is another reason keeping Gorsuch out is important.
Also, of course, there's the 25th Amendment.

They seem to be based in Vermont only. Not really the most Successful 3rd Party in the USA. Currently, the most successful 3rd Parties on a National Scale would be the Libertarians
and the Greens
. Heck, the Libertarian Party actually has 2 members in State Legislatures (Both Republicans turn Libertarian, Laura Ebke (Nebraska) and Caleb Dyer (New Hampshire)). Either of those Parties have a much better chance of taking over from the Republican Rift, unless a new Party springs to life and takes over like a storm.

I know we have that Introduction Thread, but allow me to elaborate further on what I am: As I said elsewhere, I'm from the Philippines. As you can see with my newly uploaded avatar, I'm not white. As for political views, hard to strictly define, but for certain views, I regret to say I wouldn't have been against what the NSA had done four years ago. Also, I posted my avatar to ask if I like look the type the GOP-dominated government wouldn't allow for legal citizenship, even if I'm from a country they haven't banned yet?
Concerning the dissonance between tropers who identify as social democrats vs. the apparent disdain for the movement shown by some of the comments here (including my own):
For me at least, the issue isn't so much the platform itself which actually has some good points and addresses things that do need to change at some point for the USA to thrive — it's the people. Too many of them run the gamut from "good intentions but lack solid and realistic ideas of how to actually accomplish things" to "hypocritical opportunists" to "don't actually give a damn about the issues and just want to be edgy anti-establishment hipsters".

Nah. The beast from Revelations has to attack Israel first.
I'm done trying to sound smart. "Clear" is the new smart.
