Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

George Takei is not running for Congress, it's just an elaborate April Fools Prank.
This reddit conversation has some interesting points
, namely: Trump is the death/last hurrah of the Reagan Coalition, and during the following elections we'll see the configuration of the Seventh Party System in the US.
![]()
Here
, basically, every so often the positions of the dominant parties in the US change (and in the first three systems, which are the dominant parties), and they realign around new sets of issues, policies and demographics. The current (sixth) party system is breaking down thanks to Trump scrapping dog-whistles for explicit bigotry and populism reentering the US political scene.
I'll get back to you on that later, I'm busy now, sorry.

I think one of our problems with Net Neutrality's disappearance would be manufacturers working together to silence forum sites where people give honest reviews of their products. Places like this and our favorite reviewers who break things down and give yay or nay on seeing or using them would be under fire and censored by the creators who shovel shit onto people on a regular basis.
Not only that, streaming, downloading, and torrenting services will be gutted, as what Memers noted out a long time ago.
Coming back
to Conpiracy theories, we have Trump wanting NBC news to cover his Obama wiretapping narrative instead of the Russia investigation. It would be funny if attempts to verify Trump's claims that Obama wiretapped him only lead to more Russian connections.
Not sure if this was brought up before, but that fire on the I-85 in Atlanta was arson.

Well, that CNN article may use the word in its title, but it didn't report anything differentiating intentionally destroying a section of overpass from keeping warm under the overpass. note A lot of homeless people live under overpasses in that area.
EDIT: Nvm, there is this: note Though that still could be negligence.

Grand Prince Donald Trump has gained the Craven trait.
Ethics Violator No. 3 in Trump's Circle!
Working with Trump isn't just a question of morality, but of practicality. Fred Trump Sr. was a slumlord and by all accounts a moral dumpster fire of a human being, but people were willing to work with him and keep working with him. Donald, on the other hand, has failed/screwed over so many people, that the same institutions willing to work with Fred wouldn't touch Donald. Now, the only ones left to work with are the ones who think they can use Trump, or the stupid ones. And like Christie and Romney, Trump is burning through those as well.
What I'm trying to say is, where will Trump find someone willing to primary another Republican for him?
Trump was stringing him along for awhile about a position, (Secretary of State, iirc) and in 2012 Romney did seek Trump's blessing during the election to get the crazy birthers and such on his side.

And yeah, making up news for April's Fool is really stupid.
