Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

Those are solid ideas, but they need two things. A) Detailed policies, funding mechanisms, public outreach, etc, so that the idea can actually function. And B) Wait until at least 2020, and hope that the Democrats take full control of the Federal government.
You also need some more Dems at the state level, so ideologue governors don't sink this in certain regions. And hope to god that Trump only gets to fill one SC slot.
Politics is the skilled use of blunt objects.Only way Single Payer or Medicare for all is happening is in increments. And even if it WAS possible to immediately vote on a Single-Payer bill, the results could be completely disastrous, considering all the legalities that have to be taken care of AND the fact it's 13% of our economy, which is MORE than enough to cause a severe recession, and affect our trade partners around the world.
New Survey coming this weekend!Single payer won't happen immediately and trying to ram it through immediately is irresponsible. It's still something that must be expanded, and the expansion of Medicare is one avenue by which it can eventually be accomplished.

"For all those whose cares have been our concern, the work goes on, the cause endures, the hope still lives, and the dream shall never die."He's not getting through unless they nuke the filibuster. And considering how much a dumpster fire Trump is, Mitch would take away the GO Ps means of opposition. Once it's gone, that's it.
New Survey coming this weekend! That was me. I pointed out a few times how Trump's campaign involved using PUA tactics to try and coerce America into bed with him, up to and including the negging campaign that is MAGA.
Regarding the rejection of Flynn's immunity
I support this decision. I read that letter from the lawyer that was posted a few pages back, and it was clear that Flynn isn't offering to testify to anything of value. He wasn't saying, "Protect me and I will roll over on Trump." Instead, he was holding testimony of his own innocence hostage.
Flynn's offer was basically, "Y'all are a crooked fake justice system and I will not speak even a single word to my defense until I am assured that I won't ever be charged for anything."
It'd be flatly stupid for the Justice Department to accept that offer. We'll see if he changes his tune once the investigation's further along.
EDIT: Like, he actually calls the prospect of legal consequences for his actions, "unfair prosecution". He wasn't offering us anything of value, I can assure you of that.

My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.Are they seriously trying to cover up this? That's pathetic. Either that, or Jr. doesn't know what his dad's been up to.
It doesn't matter. He kind of tanked his own reputability with the PizzaGate thing, and among his sources cited to refute Flynn's request for immunity is InfoWars and some random conspiracy theorist nutcase. The only people who'd even pay attention to him are the usual right-wing cultists.

From today's "What the Fuck Just Happened Today
"
Tom Price helped kill a rule that would hurt drug company profits the same day he acquired drug stock. The HHS secretary bought $90,000 worth of pharmaceutical stock. He said his broker acted on his behalf without his involvement or knowledge

If it was declared by anyone other then Trump, I would applaud the move, but this is coming from "Grab'em by the P****" Trump!
Still, it's a noble goal, and I approve of it. I just don't approve of Trump.

Trump proclaims April 'Sexual Assault Awareness and Prevention Month'
😂😂😂😂😂😂
These people have so little self awareness it's comical
New Survey coming this weekend! Are those the sounds of microscopic violins I'm hearing? Or is that just delicious schadenfreude pie
on my plate?

It's only been a few days since the Republican effort to destroy the ACA fell apart, but I hope it's not to soon to get excited about the possibility of an even better health care system.
