Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

One thing that worries me about Trump resigning and Pence beginning President, will be have an easier time getting a Republican Congress behind him?
Another thing is I personally wish we could actually impeach/charge Trump vs letting him say "you can't fire me, I quit"

somethingComrade General Flynn is demanding immunity in exchange for testifying at the Russia probe, for one.
Also, Mike Pence cast a tiebreaking vote to allow states to dismantle Planned Parenthood funding, in another round of him establishing that he is eviler than any of you.
"For all those whose cares have been our concern, the work goes on, the cause endures, the hope still lives, and the dream shall never die."More "Coal Country" facts
, courtesy of Krugman:
- Coal has accounted for less than 5 percent of jobs in West Virginia for over 25 years.
- One in six workers in West Virginia is employed in the fields of health care and social services.
- 22 percent of residents are on Medicare, versus 16.7 percent nationwide. (The population is older.)
- Obamacare reduced the uninsured rate in WV from 14 percent to 6 percent in 2015, largely through Medicaid expansion.
Repealing or "replacing" PPACA would be disastrous for West Virginians.

Ryan: Trump was 'very apologetic' for promoting Fox show that called on me to resign
Hmm... Trump... Apologetic... Yeah calling BS.
Also is it me or does nearly every photo of Paul Ryan have him looking exaggeratingly smarmy? Is that just photo choice by the site? I remember after the AHCA failure photos had him full on sad clown.
I am South American, we will have the bulk of climate chance shoved down our throat and up our asses long before it starts seriously harming the Southern US.
So, I am just here hoping he goes out and whoever picks the tab at least try to unfuck things.

Paul Ryan really does look like that a lot of the time. It's like how there are so many bad photos of Trump. When you make a certain expression or look bad 80% of the time, the photos the news takes are going to look really bad.
But, paraphrasing my cousin's kid, Ryan is Smarmy McSmarmSmarm.

Everything the Republicans do makes me angry. They're deliberately screwing over the future of the entire world, and their own people, just to stick it to the EBUL LIEBRULS.
Like, a pesticide that turned out to be connected to birth defects and that was on the verge of being banned? It's now officially considered safe to use despite it still having all the same risks. Like, what benefit is there in doing that?
I've said this before, but there's no functional difference between the current Republicans and a group who are deliberately trying to kill off their own people.

What really frustrates me are the people who keep voting for these assholes.
Even though they are almost always the ones who feel the full brunt of their awful policies.
If you've ever known anyone stuck in a bad relationship with a clearly awful person and are constantly met with nothing but screams of protest whenever you suggest that maybe they should find someone else, that's what it's like.
Yeah, I'm not gonna believe it until I see photos of Trump packing up those damn gold curtains of his and on the next flight to New York.

Disgusted, but not surprisedI'd take any rumor about Trump resigning at this point with a barrel of salt. One, it's entirely unprecedented and would make him look incredibly weak, and he hates looking weak. Two, he's still selling the idea that he's winning and seems to think that he is. Three, why would he give it up?
Basically it's rumors for the sake of rumors. Probably also a bit of wishful thinking.

He's driven by his ego, not by any desire to make America great. He doesn't give a fuck about America or creating jobs or keeping the border secure.
Like, he cut the funding to the Coast Guard to get money for his wall. The Coast Guard are more effective at keeping illegal immigrants and smugglers out of the country than any wall or even any land based border security.
He doesn't care.

Oh really when?If/when Trump loses in 2020, I can guarantee you that he's going to leave screaming that everyone made a huge mistake not re-electing him. Or if he just decides not to run again, which is possible, he'll constantly whinge about how he would have done everything better. While constantly complaining about how no one's going to Mar-a-Lago anymore.
Donald Trump can't admit when he made a mistake. And his decision to run for President? He can't blame it on anyone else, so he either admits he made a mistake or he suffers through it constantly trying to blame everyone else in the world for his own myriad flaws.

His budget would also call for cuts to airport security to pay for the wall.
He is Never My Fault incarnate.

Disgusted, but not surprised@Luigisan 98: But he doesn't care about "making America great again" (citation: everything he's done since he started his campaign and the distinct reduction in actual American greatness since November). He cares about nepotism, graft, and self-aggrandizement.

Right now claims that Trump may resign are limited to a few Twitter posts linked in a subreddit.
