The General US Politics Thread

Go To

Nov 2023 Mod notice:

There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.

If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines before posting here.

Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.

If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules when posting here.

In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

Too early to say. It's one of those Reuters early news alert blurbs that barely tell anything.

Unconfirmed rumors that she was spying for China.

edit- Via The Hill, she worked at multiple embassies and had top secret clearance. Said to havemet multiple times with Chinese agents, and had received many "gifts" from them over the last several years. Apparently they recovered a personal journal wherein she bragged about ow much she was receiving from them.

Representative Beto O'Rourke (D-TX) is challenging Ted Cruz over his Senate seat next year.
So, what are his chances? And what kind of district does Cruz's seat represent?

"Exclusive: Republicans mostly blame Congress for healthcare reform failure - Reuters/Ipsos poll" - http://www.reuters.com/article/us-usa-healthcare-poll-idUSKBN1702WH

I found this interesting because earlier today on another forum a person linked this, also from today:

http://www.cbsnews.com/news/republicans-health-care-trump-approval-russia-election-meddling-cbs-news-poll/

That poll stated that the blame went to the bill itself. Though they didn't seem to have an answer for Congress in general.

Cruz's district is also known as "Texas", if that helps.

I mixed his seat up with a house seat for a moment...(I passed civics I swear...)
Still, what are the chances of him being taken down. Not like these are normal times.

O'Rourke got elected in El Paso, which like every other major city in Texas outside of Fort Worth is heavy Democrat.

El Paso is also a border city.

Republican Support for Trump dropped by 10%, according to a POLITICO poll. Keep in mind, his approval rating among Republicans is currently 81%.

Has anybody done a study about what kind of people are dropping their support for Trump? I'm curious if there are any trends.

From the UK politics thread, it seems like he has quite some self-confidence. Or arrogance.

[up][up][up][up][up] And people keep saying that George Soros is influencing this country, yet they ignore the Brexit-sponsoring, Trump Aide Farage who is now trying to split California!

Good luck to him, though, as the last time Californian's tried to divide the state was very recent (at most, the 2014 Election) and it failed horribly.

No more than any poll speaks for all of anything, I'd think
