Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

If this were a fictional story, it would be a clear-cut case of Nice Job Fixing It, Villain!.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"The ACA is still exposed to executive attacks, but Congress can't touch it. The Tea Party is too fanatical to vote for anything less than a total repeal, which the moderates realize could kill the party. And since the Tea Party are one faction that actually put their principles (twisted as they are) before party, there is no reasoning with them.

Politics is the skilled use of blunt objects.A helpful article
that debunks the "Obamacare is imploding" myth that is repeatedly being used by the GOP, including Paul Ryan at the press conference today.

It's far from perfect, but it's...well, you should try asking a troper in the European Politics thread. Or wait for one of our Canadian tropers to show up.
But yeah, the arguments the GOP are using against it aren't exactly rooted in facts.

Disgusted, but not surprisedCanadian healthcare is far from perfect. Wait times are an issue (though people dying on wait lists is mostly a myth), access to specialists is uneven, funding the stuff is a major point of contention between the provinces and Ottawa, and don't get me started on what the First Nations have to put up with. And paying for it is going to be a challenge as the country ages.
But its lightyears ahead of even the ACA, let alone what you had beforehand.
Politics is the skilled use of blunt objects.
