Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

@Tactical Fox
I know he can't prove it. I'd at least like to see him try though. Little annoys me more than the people who pop in for one second to declare that "Clinton was corrupt" or "Hillary would have started a war with Russia" and then vanish rather than trying to debate the issue.
It might be annoying to have the thread derailed by debates about topics we all know are inane. But it's far less irritating than these drive by attempts at attacks.

If you want to complete the irony train, a country with a healthy economy, a populace expecting goodies and caring less about the near abroad, and generally with satisfied/patched up pride, may well be stronger but also less aggressive.
Even if Russia magically regained Soviet levels of clout and set about "fulfilling a historical mission" again, tis not like one can export crony capitalism with the same poetry as comes with "workers of the world unite." (The Baltics might be screwed though...)
We thought that last year. The GOP have traded politics for becoming an ethnic bloc. That kind of thing is very cohesive, but not widely appealing for obvious reasons. They can limp on for a while yet and drag us down in the process.
But then, they can also be cast aside and isolated. The Dems, just have the entire rest of the body politic to set towards a single goal. Doable, just, no champagne until Dem 2020 is in the WH, the blue Congress is passing a new Voting Rights Act while repealing everything with Trump's signature, and every American is drawing lots for the right to escort Trump himself to the Hague.

Look with century eyes... With our backs to the arch And the wreck of our kind We will stare straight ahead For the rest of our lives... The GOP Of Howard County (Of Which State? I can't even tell). A Local Party Head doesn't really matter much in terms of scale or importance. Still, it's nice that at least on a local level, a more level headed person can win instead of a hyper-partisan hack.
Also, the way the Republicans are heading, there won't be a GOP of any County unless they radically change, and given how they reacted to their 'self-autopsy' in 2012 (IE, Ignore it entirely), they're as good as dead come 2018-2020.
Even still, I know it's better late than never, but considering how gas and oil have fluctuated literally since they were first extracted from the ground, how the hell did not ONE person tell Putin or his Cabinet during the height of the oil boom, that "Hey, we're riding a high, let's invest in diversifying our economy, because we have some expansionist goals, and we don't want the west to be able to easily cripple us."
New Survey coming this weekend!
Sorry. I'll ensure the inclusion of geographic details next time
Speaking of geographic details North Carolina court stopped an attempted power grab on the state's election board
...on the grounds of being unconstitutional (relating to the state's constitution, not the US one, but still)

Sounds like we got a 2/3 deal on that one, since they're upholding one of the legislature's three December laws. But, fortunately, it's just the one making the governor seek senatorial consent for his cabinet and seems to be functioning as intended.
Interestingly, reading Salon's source article from the NC paper the News & Observer
, the vote to block the election and ethics board changes was unanimous in a three judge panel that's 2-1 Democrat.

Fox News host demands Snoop Dogg and Bow Wow be executed by the Secret Service
Around the three minute mark.
What the actual fuck
New Survey coming this weekend! That's overreacting a bit. But we will keep an eye on it. I'm noting that the latest incident got slammed down pretty hard.

"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"Too bad hypocrisy isn't a limited resource, or there would be no hypocrites anywhere else in the world right now.
But seriously, they spend eight years constantly whining about Obama, with none of their fake "fears" coming true, and now they're personally offended by people criticisizing the president? Really?
Just as for why that Fox News host was calling for them to be killed, Snoop Dogg had a mock assassination of a Trump look alike in clown makeup with a cartoonist gun that unfurl a flag with the word bang, and Bow Wow told Trump to stop talking shit about Snoop before they went and pimped Melania.
"We're all paper, we're all scissors, we're all fightin' with our mirrors, scared we'll never find somebody to love."How willing would you be to tell him that if you had to deal with potentially being killed or having your family become collateral damage if he decides he doesn't like your attitude, or doesn't want to be corrected?
| Wandering, but not lost. | If people bring so much courage to this world...◊ |I don't think Putin is that touchy, he does go after opponents but I doubt he'd kill an advisor for giving well intended advice that he didn't agree with. He's no saint, but he's not Stalin or Saddam.
As for our friends at Fox, this is standard GOP procedure. When a Democrat is in the Oval Office; it is the patriotic duty of every Real American(TM) to resist tyranny. When a Republican gets in; Führerprinzip goes into effect.
Politics is the skilled use of blunt objects.I've heard that people are afraid to contradict him or tell him when he's wrong or un-iformed. Granted I've only heard that from one source, but I can imagine becoming a target of a paranoid ruler if you voice objections to his plans, and then they don't work out. It certainly lets the kissasses whisper as much.

I'm frankly tired of listening to uninformed clowns rage about "corruption" while not having the slightest clue about government, public policy, norms, the campaign process.
