Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

You can't really ask people to summarize several weeks worth of news for you, especially when there's no much. Here's
a good resource to use to get a day by day summary of the news. Otherwise, a number of news sites use have a system where you can look through their archives and see the current or past headlines and stories. Here are ones for Vox
and The Atlantic
for example. You may find those useful.

| Wandering, but not lost. | If people bring so much courage to this world...◊ |I was asking for a summary of one week's worth of events. Most weeks in all of history haven't been packed with as much bullshit as every week under the Trump administration has been.
On Trump's hate groups:... why hasn't anyone even attempted to assassinate him? I'm not calling for it, I'm just confused why I haven't heard reports of a single actual attempt. Given how Donald Trump might be the most hated person on Earth right now, you'd think someone would be stupid enough to try.

Send our president to the Hague and throw away the key.
"For all those whose cares have been our concern, the work goes on, the cause endures, the hope still lives, and the dream shall never die."Because no one is willing to throw away their future because of Trump; can we move on?
This talk of assassination bothers me. I'm a brown man, I don't want to give DHS a reason to break down my door.

"For all those whose cares have been our concern, the work goes on, the cause endures, the hope still lives, and the dream shall never die."More details on how AHCA will screw over older Americans.
tl;dr: An age tax that will screw people in their 50s to mid 60s.
Calling the AHCA a clusterfuck is an insult to clusterfucks.

Disgusted, but not surprisedWe've gone through this whole assassination discussion before. It was disturbingly callous and the fact that Trump is a horrible man and president doesn't make it any less disturbingly callous. Plus, hey, actually successful attempts don't actually seem to make things better, they just make people more scared.
We need to be better than to wish for someone's death like this.
@Mosque, pentagon is claiming that while it did conduct an air strike in the area, photos of a destroyed mosque (all provided to media by Salafist group Ahrar al-Sham) are fake and the mosque claimed to be destroyed is still standing. They are currently not denying the casualty count.

Russian elite invested nearly $100 million in Trump buildings
“I can tell you, speaking for myself, I own nothing in Russia,” President Trump said at a news conference last month. “I have no loans in Russia. I don’t have any deals in Russia.”
But in the United States, members of the Russian elite have invested in Trump buildings. A Reuters review has found that at least 63 individuals with Russian passports or addresses have bought at least $98.4 million worth of property in seven Trump-branded luxury towers in southern Florida, according to public documents, interviews and corporate records.
Okay, did anyone watch this conference with Merkel and Trump? Not only did Trump at one point, refuse to shake her hand, he doubled down AGAIN on the Wiretapping claim. He looked at Merkel directly, saying "At least we have something in common, perhaps." in reference to the wire tap.
Merkel appropriately looks confused AF.
New Survey coming this weekend!Eh, they're used to meeting idiots, tyrants, and egotists. That's part of daily life as a world leader. What they aren't used to is that kind of thing coming from a U.S. President.
