Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

Asgore Adopts Noelle
Okay, something serious is going on now if all those departments are having these press conferences...
There is something interesting about 2005: it was the year Trump married Melania. There was a lot of noise in the press at the time about how unusually conservative the expense of the wedding and reception was, but he did have a ballroom made from scratch for the wedding (guess what colour it was decorated with).
Also, one of his most prominent wedding guests was Conrad Black, who was toxic at the time because of swindling charges against him.... yet he was cosying up to Trump at the wedding. That got a lot of press at the time, too.
So, yeah, it could turn out to be completely boring and not show off much... but it was an interesting year at the time.

If my post doesn't mention a giant flying sperm whale with oversized teeth and lionfish fins for flippers, it just isn't worth reading.![]()

Nothing at all? Most of Gen Z is still teenaged. Honestly, an article asserting the fiscal conservatism of fifteen-year olds deserves to be laughed at.
Your obsession with this topic is irritating, though.

"For all those whose cares have been our concern, the work goes on, the cause endures, the hope still lives, and the dream shall never die."Looks like the actual tax returns were just the basics like always on a 1040.
There was also a clear CLIENT COPY watermark on the paperwork.
Trump could've easily leaked it himself.
Yeah, I'm hearing that the Tax Returns of 2005 is a whole load of nothing, and that Rachael Maddow might've been trying to make a mountain out of a mole hill (I didn't actually watch the report, though).
Seems to me that, until we get a tax return from 2014+, we're not gonna find anything incriminating, and even then there sadly might not be anything there...

Usually they start harassing people by PM instead of trying to derail the topic with the discussion of incredibly inane matters.
Take
. tl;dr: Forcing the WH to release Trump's tax returns for 2005 has weakened their stance on not releasing any of them, ever.

I have disagreed with her a lot, but comparing her to republicans and propagandists of dictatorships is really low. - An idiotI think she intends to. Of course, Trump has never really required justification to do anything.
This as well. And Trump will probably be more successful at his goal, since smearing the media is intensely proximal.

"For all those whose cares have been our concern, the work goes on, the cause endures, the hope still lives, and the dream shall never die."At least some of the alleged hackers have ties to the Russian government, said the people, who added the national security division of the Justice Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation plan to announce the charges Wednesday morning.
In September, Yahoo revealed hackers penetrated its network in late 2014 and stole personal data on more than 500 million users. The company concluded that it had been breached by "a state-sponsored actor." The 2014 incident was separate from another, much-larger theft, affecting more than a billion accounts, that Yahoo disclosed in December and that dated back to 2013.
It is unclear if the charges are related to one or both of the breaches. The Russian embassy in Washington didn't immediately return a request for comment.
Earlier Tuesday, Bloomberg reported the Justice Department plans to accuse four people of participating in the security breaches, including one person in Canada and three people in Russia.
Okay, so far...
Trump has failed to get Mexico to pay for the wall and is apparently going to screw over the security we already have (Coast Guard and airport security) to help pay for it.
Trump has failed to provide a better health care system — the AHCA is utter shit.
Trump has done nothing to actually improve the economy or job market — we're still reaping the benefits of the Obama administration. Trump is in fact hurting the economy by discouraging tourists from visiting the USA.
Trump has wasted millions of taxpayer dollars to go on vacations and on providing extra security for his wife in Trump Tower, and has already spent over a tenth of what Obama's vacations cost taxpayers. It's been less than two months.
...I just re-read that last sentence I typed. It's only been two months since this clusterfuck started. Ugh.

Disgusted, but not surprisedEven if Trump was a respectable and well-intentioned president I wouldn't expect him to be able to make improvements to the country's economy right away....BUT the fact that he's already hurting the US tourism industry with his reactionary administration is already quite damning because it's only going to get worse from here on out.
Doesn't mean anything even if we're accurate since it's 15 year olds and it doesn't even poll the whole generation.
And many of us were conservative when were 15.
I identified with Republicans because my dad was Republican when I was 15. Bush turned me into an Independent, college turned me into a Democrat and the primaries and this wgeneral wlextion turned me into n actual left winger.
